Sure - then they should feel free to start threads about it. But this thread is not and never was about HF breaker bars. As I mentioned already, I don't care for them. I don't have an issue with someone dropping in to tell me they like their HF bar, but are you saying I'm not supposed to tell you that I'm not considering it? I wasn't rude was I?

I didn't start this thread as a general forum for users to vote on their favorite breaker, though like I said I don't particularly mind if some people stop in and tell me what they like. I asked specifically if anyone could give me thoughts about if I should get the $31 Proto, or hold out for the Snap-On that I had my eye on. Any opinions on that?

I've got craftsman, HF and Proto breaker bars. The Proto wins hands down; it's more solid, slimmer, has the knurled handle, and it still manages to be the strongest.

Haha, Dennis, you could have just said, "refer to my avatar pic" and we'd have known your vote!

I have a Cornwell 24" breaker. It has served me well over many years.

For the price you can get the Proto for it seems like a very easy choice.

Only since this came up in the last thread and several thought there was something wrong, with Proto the holes through the yoke ears are drilled out to a slightly larger diameter than the pin which is secured in the drive. It's not a defect and they all come like that. Heads have the right amount of drag and they don't deflect when you are really putting your shoulder into it. I have the 24" and the 11". Admittedly they're not quite this clean and shiny anymore but... :D

You can't go wrong with either choice though  The Snap-On's are good too. I'd just rather the knurled grip myself.

Fair enough. I already have a 24" Snappy (perhaps where my 'meh' attitude towards breakers comes from?) but if I didn't, I'd be all over that Proto like a pack of dogs on a crippled cat.

Heck, I still may pick one up. Just because I don't get worked up over breaker bar threads doesn't mean I might not jump on a deal....

I'm glad I started this thread b/c it (surprisingly) seems like several people are 'meh' about the SO breakers. Probably gonna get the Proto with high confidence I'll be happy with it. Thanks for the input.

I don't want you to mis-interpret what I'm saying... My Snappy does the job with so little drama that I don't even really think about it... I've never really used any others, so I don't know if others are the same.

Some flex is a good thing. If a bar is so stiff it can't flex at all, it could lead to snapping of the shaft. I have never seen a break bar shaft snap off, the drive or the yolk fails first. If flex is a major concern, step up 3/4" drive.

I don't own an actual break bar. I have a 24 inch snap on ratchet I use. Personally I feel it's stronger than a break bar. And breaker bar I've used I've managed to snap the head off
