As usual, we get hosed here in Canada for the same product. Last I heard the American buck is not worth twice as much as ours :mad:

As a professional mechanic I have a mix matched set the ones I use most are the Husky 12 point because when I needed them that was the only brand that I could find individually besides Northern Tool. At my shop we are not allowed to use an impact on them so I have to break it loose with a breaker bar so chrome or impact doesn’t matter to me.

I don’t see stamping in picture nor does amazon description state they are stamped
Also checked questions ask and reply was they are printed

Are you confirming they are both that would be great

Yes, they are lasered and roll stamped.
Amazon questions are usually not great at best

What are you working on that's 12 point and you can't use air to break loose? Toyota axle nuts come to mind and they are 12 point, and axle nuts blow breaking loose without air. Last one I did with no air, a few weekends ago, I was standing on a Wylde pry bar, end on the ground, and using my wright railroad ratchet to break it loose. So what are you working on?

vw were 12point I too have used long breaker bar and big pain

Those axle bolts rust so fast even on new cars

I’m a dealership mechanic for Toyota and because the younger guys always damaged them with impacts they took away the whole shops privileges to use air tools on axle nuts and inside the cars and you can’t use power on them either.

I understand axle sockets should be thinner but if they are rated impact
What can they not be used in that way ?

I'm guessing it's because people forget to unstake the nut. Common mistake. I've still had stuff shred off though. One of my cars is a scion TC. Oem axle nut and axle, went to replace the wheel bearing and such, step 1 axle nut shreds axle. Step 2 get axle out. That was fun and a lesson in improv. Point is, harbor freight 12 point set, they didn't fail, the parts did, and is usually the case. I own all kinds of tools, but the hf sockets still stand up. I have others as well.

Yep either they forgot to unstake the nut or had the impact set to go the wrong way so it would tighten instead of loosen and do more damage than just breaking the axle nut. Fortunately for me I never broke one taking it loose without air.
