Looking for a certain ratchet

Or what is the shortest stubby 1/4" ratchet you have seen with a knurled type handle?

The 40970 is 4 or 4.5". The new ones don't have as aggressive knurling though. I sometimes wish I would have gotten the longer 1/4" drive. The 40970 is pretty small.

This is the one I have. It looks much bigger in th picture than when you hold it.

I know it's not knurled, so it doesn't exactly meet your criteria, but I thought I'd mention it anyway because of its size. It's the smallest one I've seen outside of a palm ratchet. if you can't find exactly what you're looking for, it may be an alternative.

Ya... They dont make that "Stubby" handle in 1/4". They only make the normal 40970. You can get the thumbwheel ratchet (49270) If you want to go shorter.. haha

You can make one. I took an S-K 1/4"er with a buggared handle and turned it into a palm ratchet. Thing works very well.

I dug mine out for pics.
Took the round head, and installed it into a 3/4" thrust collar by filing out a step and grinding down the original handle stub to press-fit into it. Then screwed a bolt into the setscrew hole, made a stainless steel teardrop ring, and filled it in with epoxy. You could make the handle as long or as short as you want.
Fits the hand well, and works great. For fast ratcheting I let the pointy end hang downward, and with a quick flick of the wrist can run panel screws in or out fast. For tougher jobs, I rotate the handle 180 degrees, and then the pointy end forms a perfect thumb rest for great leverage.

They DO make a 1/4" drive handle, with a 3/8" drive kit in it, which is handy to have, but doesnt really help you

If that "volume" doesn't bother you call the S&K 800 number and see if they have a kit to fit. Too many rely on the internet and never actually talk to the company itself. Humans are sometimes smarter than a .pdf.
