I need a key for "Supreme Chuck" model number 6T33C on a 1951 Sprunger drill press. How do you measure the chuck to find a key that fits? Or are keys "one off" to only fit a particular chuck? Thanks

Measure the pilot hole carefully, it's my under standing that they are standardized but shaft size. I bought an open box drill with no key and had no problem finding a key after measuring the pilot hole, and it was an odd size.

You could just try a lisle 12050 or 12060 4 way key.

thanks, that is what I wanted to ask in my question. Is there a standardization, based on physical characteristics of the chuck? Your answer indicates they are based on the size of the pilot hole for the key

A Jacobs 3653 works like a champ. It will be stamped K3C. I got one for my 6T33 a couple of months ago from Amazon, $10.50. As previously mentioned, some Ace Hardware's have them on the shelf. You might check there first to save some time and shipping costs.
Out of curiosity, have you disassembled yours for servicing? There are pundits out there that will tell you they come apart like a Jacobs chuck. That is not true. I finally dug up a couple of threads on another forum that spells it out but they're not 6T33's. If you have taken yours apart I'd love to get some input on it before I do any damage on the one I'm dorking with on an old Atlas DP resto.
For what it's worth, looks like you press the outer sleeve off towards the mounted end. The ring gear that the chuck teeth fit into are a separate item. Key was to have a sleeve that is precisely fits that outer chuck sleeve to get it off. As usual, with the correct knowledge and tools, it's easy.
Please chime in if this is not the case for the 6T33.

Hello, I talked to a gent this am who has parts for my press... I asked him this ... On the sprunger there is a ring above the chuck that screws down against the chuck and pushes it off. The spindle is tapered. Taps back on with a rubber mallet

Correct! I'm referring to dismantling the chuck once it's off in order to clean it up. You described removing it and putting it back on the spindle if I read it correctly.
A set of Jacobs #6 chuck removal wedges and some lube usually makes quick work out of removal as well. I've found that it can be a real challenge to get the chucks off vintage DP's due to the threads on the threaded collar being gunked up with who-knows-what over the years and stubborn, dry spindle tapers the chuck fits on to.
I got a set of wedges and a pin spanner when I started doing the handful of DP restos I've been doing along with fresh cans of both Gibbs Penetrant and Aerokroil.
