Just sockets? Metric? SAE? both? Do you want deep and shallow sockets? Spinner handle with bits?

More specifics would help us help you

I've got nice little Husky set that has dual-head ratchet (1/4" and 3/8") and includes driver handle and extensions. Think you'd be happy with set like that as it's not just sockets.

Sockets are all short, but you could supplement with sleeve of deep 3/8.

I've got this same set that I keep in the trunk of the Wife's Jeep. Works well for me when I need it.
Here's a pic.

Hey guys, I frequently take road trips on my Harley and like to keep a set of tools with me. Because I'm on a motorcycle I am extremely limited on space. I've found that the best way to keep a 1/4 inch socket set is to identify exactly which sockets you are going to need (most likely) and then place them into a zippered nylon pouch along with a ratchet handle and a 3 inch extension. Because my Harley is all SAE that makes it easy to keep a full set of SAE sockets in my tool bag. The HUGE advantage of the nylon pouch is that it will conform to whatever container you place it it. This is far superior to the hard plastic cases that are so popular nowadays. Those cases work well for the garage environment and keep tools organized, but they take up 2-3 times as much space as needed. The zippered nylon pouches can be found at Lowes, HD, etc. for just a few bucks in the tool bag section. Hope this is helpful!

FYI - I use nylon pouches to separate out and keep all my tools organized on my bike. I have separate pouches for wrenches, small misc tools, electrical repairs, etc. I label them all with a black Sharpie marker.

The DIY store brands (Husky, Cobalt, etc) have all been completely satisfactory to me. Very reasonably priced and fully guaranteed for life.

By the way, I'm new here. This is my first post, so Hi everyone. :)

Honestly I'd go to Lowes and grab a basic kobalt set on sale in a blow molded case. That way if you ever have a broken tool on the road, a lowes is usually not too far. I keep a 3/8 drive craftsman set in the car in a blow molded case. It has a good range of sockets, a 3/8" ratchet, 1/4" spinner handle and a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter.

That's a great deal above^^^ Jump on it if you want one...

FWIW I have a very similar Facom set that I bought from Steve/Ultimate Garage about 10 yrs ago for the same reason you are (But mines Metric, with 1/4 bits; Facom R.2A), It's served me very well.

I have that Husky set branded as something else (came from Pep Boys), it is pure garbage.

I have a Sunex spline drive set that I got for free, and would only use in a pinch (universal metric/imperial sockets scare me...but the ratchet is actually decent), but I also have a Beta set and have been eyeballing a Wera set.

Sunex:

Wera:

Beta set is probably out of your budget:

I'll second that.

I got one of those things in a car club gift exchange. The plastic tray deformed just from ambient heat in the trunk. Bunch of crappy chicom sockets rolling around loose. Still have some of the individual pieces, but threw most of it away (and I don't throw usable tools away)....

Ended up with a little Gearwrench bit driver set that I found a Orchard Supply for $8.99 that fits in the center console. That and a 40 piece (I think) Kobalt 3/8" drive set in the blow molded case. Took out the SAE sockets and added a set of 1/4" Kobalt metric sockets in their place when they were on sale, along with a couple of extensions and a 1/4" ratchet. That and a tool roll with a set of HF ratcheting wrenches, combination wrenches, a set of hex wrenches all fit inside the well of my spare tire. Pretty much everything I need if I'm broken down on the side of the road.

I was not even remotely in the market for a 1/4 set but that Facom set is just too good of a deal to pass up. It took restraint to only order one. I'll use it in my summer car that currently has no tools onboard. Yes, there are cheaper options but I don't have any Facom in my lineup so why not?

Some of you guys have WAY TOO MUCH money "burning a hole in your pocket !" IMHO $80 is NOT a great deal. Nice set. Nice case. Under $50 would be a good deal.

You could buy the 2 Craftsman sets, add the same extras (extensions, universal, etc) and probably be less than $40 !!

I love my gearwrench set $50!! Mine was on sale

here is another

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GearWrench-...:g:Uq8AAOSwwbdWPQdi&item=262131359870&vxp=mtr

The best 1/4 set I have had. It is an excellent blowmold case

I have this set as well, got it for $50 on sale, I really like it, and I'm not really crazy about GW, but it has served me well. I replaced the ratchet with a TL72 though.

Not so sure about it fitting the bill as far as being compact, but a lot of repair can be done with this set in a pinch. It also take up about the same amount of room as my two craftsman 1/4" sets and is more complete.

I second the Kobalt set recommendation. Make sure you get one of the Taiwan sets...they're about 50% off right now, depending on location.

You sure use a lot of capital letters and exclamation marks for a guy with humble opinions.

Yeah, I think I said there are cheaper options but the Facom set at $80 is way cheaper than you can normally buy it. I also didn't use the word "great". I admit to having a bit of disposable income, it just happens to some people. I like a diverse toolbox, I have plenty of Craftsman already.

I emailed ultimategarage who was selling the set that day and never got a reply and now they jacked price to $160. will never go to their site again. poor service.

and yes anything over $50 bucks really is a lot of money for what a tiny kit has in it but thats the world we live in. companies want to make huge profit.

The deal was for US customers only.....I'll still honor the price if you have a US address I can ship to.

My website is not setup to accept orders from outside the US because of the $10 flat rate shipping amount. For Canadian customers, I have to calculate the freight cost and appropriate customs and taxes (GST/PST/HST). I tried to put a good deal out there (1 day flash sale on a nice tool set) for some forum members and I get blasted for it. Lesson learned!

I agree with the kobalt suggestions. I also surprised nobody has mentioned the Duralast 1/4" set or the NAPA set Cripe sells.

Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk

I think cripe has been sold out of those for awhile and at more than 50 pieces, it's not too compact.:dunno:

Lastly, friends don't recommend Duralast tools to good people:lol:

I think the duralast is decent for keeping in the car. Not great, but not horrible. I prefer the rathet over my kobalt and craftsman. And I just realized the NAPA is out of stock. Oops!

Maybe the email was never received and the post on the forum was the first he had heard of your question?

Despite how we think emails always arrive seconds after we send them, that isn't always the case (as I have found out at work recently)!

I have had several dealings with Ultimate Garage and all have been very positive. Steve always ships quickly, and the items are packaged well.

I am in sales to and from the 100 emails I get daily they either go to inbox or junk if email gets sent. if not it will come back to sender as not delivered... but sure anything is possible. Either way old news lets move on.
