looking for a decent socket/wrench set

I see once you get to 600$ you start to get the bigger stuff. Do they even sell the monster set anymore? I see they have some module system. I bought a set in 80 or so and it seems it was 3500 maybe? I bought a different set of boxes than the package deal, seems that added some.

It had full 3/4 drive in sae and tap die sets to 3/4 and 19mm. It was an easy way to get going fast. It had already tanked then, busted a lot of sockets out of that set and out of one I must have bought 10 yrs later.

Some of it we triplicated and 10 or 20X since, I did some replacement the other day and knew I was forgetting something, a couple shallow 13MM, Menards had the deal on chrome singles. In a 1/2 deep 3/8 drive it was a dollar cheaper than Lowes and seemed heavier. I couldn't find one the other day, bought one at each store.

I wanted a 6 pt but they didn't have it and I found mine since.

Big decision difference between 300 and 3 grand, in todays world 300 is disposable, this can be bought out of pocket without too much pain. Its stuff I would have no trouble,,, do and have made a living with for 95% of it.

Im just 14 year old and mostly working on bikes for now but as I get older my use of them will change into light mechanical use and small repairs but am looking for a lifetime set

These three Gearwrench sets are pretty good deals if you're starting from scratch and could use the ratchets and extensions. I love the knurling on Gearwrench sockets and the cases are decent too.

Well im stopping into sears today to take a look at what they have in stock for craftsman and any reviews on dewalt sockets?

I bought the 204 piece Dewalt set last month. I wanted something that I could take back and forth to school. The case seems to be holding up great although a socket will fall out of place occasionally. It's not been too bad so far though and seems limited to just one socket. To be honest, I expected more of a problem than it's been. The case has four metal clasps on it, but they just snap onto the plastic case. It hasn't been a problem so far. I did have a problem with the 1/2 drive ratchet. Dewalt warrantied it with no problem, but I still haven't gotten my replacement ratchet yet. The lady said it would arrive within seven business days. That will be tomorrow. With that said, the problem that I was having with the original ratchet seems to have fixed itself.

I haven't gotten to use the set very much yet because of the July 4th holiday, but the more I use the tools the more I like them. Will they stand up to professional use? I don't know yet, and there are some holes in the set. It doesn't have a 12mm wrench or 12mm 1/2 drive shallow socket. I just used an adapter and a 3/8 drive socket.

For the DIY or someone just starting out in their tool purchases though, I can't recommend them enough. It really is a very nice set, and it's on sale for $100 less than I paid (I did get $50off for joining Craftsman Club). If you can pick it up for $150, do it. You can thank me later.
