Looking for a "die" set, no taps

I went to thread something the other day and all I've got for "dies" is some cheap foreign products that my Dad picked up for pennies at a garage sale. Quality isn't good.

I already have a lot of "taps" and don't care to purchase any more. So question is can you just purchase a set of "dies"?

Just English, don't hardly ever need metric. Of course I am cheap, but will pay for quality. These are for hardware, not pipe.

I would skip looking for a set and just buy individual 1-1/2" adjustable round dies from McMaster Carr or MSC. I would look at buying the sizes you use most and fill in as needed.

Also, stalk Amazon (camelcamelcamel works for this) and watch the prices on the Union-Butterfield dies. Amazon seems to drop the price by ~70% when they get down to the last few in a particular size.

I've built up a full set of dies from #0 to 1/2" in UNF and UNC that way over time.

Sets of just dies are kind of rare, but they do exist, or at least they used to. I picked up a huge set of metric dies, in a fitted metal box with wood liners , at a swap meet a few years ago. Might try some of the bigger machine shop suppliers like MSC, Travers, or the like.
