My Snapon set goes down to 5mm. Turns out every nut on my kids RC cars are 4.5mm. I’m working on that damn thing a lot so looking forward a really good quality 4.5mm combo wrench.

What do the RC guys use? Probably nut drivers? Even after I got out of RC I still bought & used a number of RC tools cause they were generally pretty good quality & made to tighter tolerances.

For RC Toys you typically want nut drivers.
Look up Hudy or MIP.

If you are set on wrenches then Engineer Co from Japan has a nice set of small wrenches for electronics.
For these particular parts a wrench is required. I.e steering linkage shaft lengthy adjustments. I’ll look into engineer. I have a bunch of their pliers that I like.

Edit: turns out the Engineer set skips 4.5. As does the Moody set. I’ll look into MiP and Hudy. Thanks.

Most of the RC specific stuff I’ve seen is really over priced and pretty low quality. Is there a brand of two you would recommend?

Not really as I'm sure so much has changed since my RC days. I got out of RC in the late 90s. Some of the tools I had were by Dynamite, MIP, Tamiya, Kyosho, Team Associated, Yokomo.... most of the latter are just RC car brands though that may or may not have actually made their own tools. I would imagine there is a lot of China made stuff now. Not so much back then.

They sell specific turnbuckle wrenches for your steering linkage. Here is 3 pages worth:

But the thing is, most wrenches in that link are either 3.25, 4, or 5mm+. They totally skip 4.5mm. MIP doesn't make a 4.5mm wrench either.

What RC car are you working on that requires a 4.5mm wrench?

Edit: MIP makes the best hex drivers and their nut drivers are really good too. Plus made in the USA. Hudy is second best.

It’s a Traxxas Latrax. It’s all 4.5mm on it. I’ll look into the MiP nut drivers. I’ve been using a Snapon 4.5mm socket for most of the ball nuts.
4.5 is a very odd ball size, even for electronics.

Gotcha.

MIP doesn't make a 4.5mm nut driver. Hudy is your best bet. I have Hudy drivers and they are quite good. For hex drivers though, definitely MIP.

I have a full set of PB swiss hex drivers all the way down to 0.89 so I’m covered there. Thanks.

As some suggested above, those could work fine and some look like the old Craftsman mini metric wrench sets that I have and use regularly (They're pretty good (USA made ones) especially for the price found on eBay). The problem I'm finding, especially on recent projects (Made in England micrometers) is the need for thinner and smaller area wrenches because of the tight spots or thin slots for the wrench to fit in where my craftsman and Snap-On's don't fit..

I have a set by Moody that look like this but they don't have 4.5mm (scant below 3/16") but his one does and much cheaper ($8). This style has been a life saver for me.

They look like this:

One review put it perfectly:

"These aren't something I'd want the mechanic using on the jet engine before my next commercial flight, but for $5 they're prefect for sight bead removal/installation, light work on computers, electronics, radio controlled hobby cars, etc"

Yay you went with my suggestion lol. Did you have to order them? Out of curiosity I looked there the other day for one and they didn’t even have a spot for that size in my stores Kobalt section.
It was $4 a wrench delivered. So not bad at all plus figured if they where horrible Lowe’s is only a few minutes away to return. So far happy except sure wish they where usa made.

Cripe on Ebay is selling 3pc sets of the 4.5mm in the older Kobalt USA brand. I have to admit though, the open ends of your wrenches look like they might be shaped a little bit better than the USA wrench Cripe pics. The USA ones look like they would fit into tighter areas though.

Sorry, but IMO those "ignition" wrenches are utter ****. I'd go with the suggested Engineer TS-04 set.

$4 shipped makes the wrench almost free. Selling On eBay the lowest cost of shipping even a piece of bread crumb is $3.24.

Will admit, I do use the mini =V= USA craftsman wrenches a lot but they’re pretty big in tight spots, hence my earlier recommendation.

let’s be honest, working on the kids RC’s doesn’t need a whole lot of high load or special expensive wrenching so why not try out the cheap wrenches first? It’s not a bad idea. Besides after a month or two the RC’s will get shelved when the kids find new sparkly things to play with and those things will probably need different tools (and no instructions included).

Hi Grant. I am not sure where on the Engineer website you looked.
But here is the set I have. It includes 4.5mm in both open and closed wrench ends.
