Great site, I was thinking about doing my garage floor myself. But with my Elbow problem I'm just not up for it. Can anybody recommend a good company that can do a 600sq Granite type epoxy floor. I live in the Pasadena CA area.
I've talk to one guy and he talking about around $3.00 a sq foot.
At $3, you are getting a paint job. If that is want you want then thats what you'll get.
At 600 sqft, that means a paint job consists of 1 to 1.5 gallons of primer, 2 to 3 gallons of base coat, 5 to 10 lbs of chips and either 2 to 3 gallons of epoxy or polyurethane topcoat. 5 to 7.5 gallons of material.
Those same spread rates would be the same for these so called one day systems as well, but some charge $5 to $6 for this.
Then there are some of us that choose to assess every slab and pick and choose different products for the specific condition of the slab and for its intended use. Being that we are talking garage, we have different options for residential garage and a working garage.
Now if its pourus, we choose a specific primer. If its damp, we choose a water proofing primer. If its deteriorated we don't go with epoxy at all but with a urethane self leveling cement system.
We then choose a base for the epoxy systems; if it has many spider cracks or a heavy amount of crack fill, we choose a flex resin for a base. If not we have our standard base coat. If its a metallic we choose a special slow cure resin.
If its a chip floor we do full broadcasts, 50lbs of chips covers 200 sqft. Then we like to use a 92 % solids polyaspartic system as a top coat.
For a 600 sqft job, typically we use 6 gallons of self priming base coat, 125 lbs of chips and 6 gallons of polyaspartic top coat.
As for recommending an installer, google search "epoxy flooring
your town name, CA". Get 3 to 4 bids, compare apples to apples, check for references and see some finished work.
