I am hoping some of you have experience with electric models. I don't want a cheap "big box store" unit. I have a pretty decent gas one now, and want to have an electric unit for it the garage. Mostly car cleaning. But other quick jobs as well.

My budget is about 700 bucks. I like the AR 767, and the karcher 5/12c. The AR is 120v 20a, while the karcher looks to be a 240v unit. I can upgrade the electrical fairly easy. I really like the auto-shutoff they have when not pulling the trigger. The AR would be convienient as far as the 120v is concerned, but I would go with the 240 if it would make that big of a difference.

Any other units I'm missing? Any feedback is very appreciated.

Kranzle (german made) is another one, but I don't think it's in your price range any more. It does work on a 15A circuit if that's important to you (sounds like it's not if you're willing to go 240).

I am happy to go to 240 if it will make a nice difference. Otherwise I would use a dedicated 20a 120v plug.

Go for 240V. If you need an extension cord (likely), you can easily convert a 12 gauge cord to 240 by replacing both ends. Cheaper than trying to hunt down a 10 gauge cord !

Good idea. That shouldn't be an issue for me as I'd just use my gas unit when out of the garage.

Anyone have any other suggestions on a 240v that has the auto-stop feature?

You can only get so much out of a small circuit. I don't know of any "good" ones on 120V but some claim they like them. I think Northern had a fair selection, worth looking. I am not sure ruling it out as a "box store" model makes a difference, its about price range.

With ice and snow would go big bucks, plumb it all in. Number 1 or 3 Probably wont cut like mine @5 gpm but will de ice a car. I don't care about steam, does help a bit with grease in some cases but hi pressure hot is what cleans.

I went through a number of cheap electric washers, none of them lasting more than a year. I eventually bought a Kranzle washer, and it has held up fine for the past 2.5 years. I use it mainly for washing the cars. It is only a 1600 psi unit, but that is good enough for washing cars.

500 for any kind of working unit isn't bad, worth the risk. I can really tell how good a unit works washing cars. My Cud bought this gas thing with a Briggs on it that worked well,,, so much better than the Hondas with the 5.5 on them. An extra HP and better pump made it night and day difference or at least enough it was noticeable. He spent about 800 on it.

Volume (GPM) is more important than pressure. You want at least 2 GPM.

Mi-T-M makes some excellent pressure washers, and they have a wide selection of electric models. They are based in Iowa.

Funny. I have a brand new Mi T M unit right now.

It's ok, just not incredibly powerful. It has an oil filled pump and all, but its only 1.5 gpm. Fine if you have limited electrical sockets to 15 amp breakers.

Maybe on a 30A circuit. There is only so many watts and energy comes from 20A 120V period. They can fuss with the numbers all they want but it doesn't change this, 2 hp will trip the breaker and likely cause start problems.

Eastwood has one for $200.00 but it's probably a little smaller than what you are looking for. It's item #14143

Right. Too small. Looks like one of the cheap lowes, or Home Depot units.

Minimum gpm is 2.0
I'd like over 1500 psi also, but gpm is more important.

If volume was more important than pressure, you'd use a garden hose.

******** !

Buy a pump that can do at least 2.0 GPM. This easy for gas powered models and GOOD electric ones also. Much higher than that and you won't be able to get enough volume from your home spigot.

I'm looking at this one from a local Karchet rep.

Commercial grade. 3gpm, 2000 psi, 5.2hp, 220v. Auto-start/stop with trigger pull/release. Seems very heavy duty. He had a few at his shop for sale in the box. It's about 1400 bucks.

If there was any other interest on here for a group buy he might cut a discount on them. Just a thought.
