My Nitecore p10 is a good pocket flashlight. At first I was worried about the dedicated charger and special battery, but I find I only need to recharge it every month or so with occassional use.

No USB, but I wouldn't have a problem with that. If going on a trip, a spare battery is a must anyway.

Try before you buy to see if you like the ergonimics. On my Nitecore it is too easy to accidentally hold down the mode button while pushing the overly-stiff tail button. If you do that, it won't turn on since it is blinking the battery voltage.

Ive had this Nightstick for nearly 3 years and it works great. Changed batteries once. Has two lights on it.

Illumn is running a sale right now, and the R50 is only $95.56. The Pro version is only $111.96 right now. These are great prices. I'm surprised they are still running this sale. Get it before the prices go up.

The Maglite ML300L 3 D-cell is the perfect flashlight for the jobs where no "weapons" are allowed. It's reasonably bright white at 600+ lumens. The switch has many program settings; full power, low power, eco, strobe... In a self defense situation it can thump someone on the head, hence why cops used it for many years. You can use any excuses why you have a big flashlight; to break glass in an emergency...

If you are in for high output: http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_360866.html It has an output of 3800 lumens using a Cree XHP70 emitter. Let's just say that is obscenely bright. $51 with a coupon code (most lights with the XHP70 run $100+).

For something a bit more affordable, my current every day light is the BLF A6 XPL 1600Lumens at $20. Pretty compact and still pretty damn bright. This light is a joint project between the Flashlight manufacturer Manker and the flashlight forum BudgetLightForum. This was one of the best values in flashlights last year because of how well it was made and its use of genuine Cree emitters (and not the fake Cree knock-off emitters like many of the <$20 lights).

I'm also on the Streamlight band wagon. Namely the Stinger series of lights. Easily fits in my pocket. I carry one during my whole shift at work. I also have another one I use at my hobby shop, and getting ready to buy a third one for my wife to use at the house/backyard at night with the dogs, etc.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but their warranty is lifetime. I've sent both of mine in for repairs/updates, and both times they've come back repaired and updated (newest bulb technology, new switch, new lens, etc) free of charge.

A while ago I was looking for a pocket size flashlight with a built in laser pointer . Does anyone know if there is such a thing? Sure would be handy for my line of work. The light lve been using for the last 5-6 yrs is the UK LED marine 4 AA size. The ones you see the firemen and rescue people have clipped on there helmets. It's the only kind I've had where the switch hasn't failed BCD

The Larry 2 work light has a version with a laser pointer on top. They run $11-15 on EBay and Amazon.

As far as the flashlights go, I'm also a big fan of Streamlight. I've got some that have taken a lot of abuse and work great and never a problem with warranty.
