Looking for a good roll cab

Hello guys. My Husky box is definately getting too small and overloaded. I am looking for a nice but affordable roll cab. Needs to have at least two drawer bays with the big drawer on top for Hansen Socket Racks. I just like how roll cabs are and that you can have that workspace on top and the ability to put a hutch or a top chest on. What brands do you guys recommend? Snap On, Mac, and Matco are out of my price range so maybe in the $400-$500 range at most. I know this seems low but I am still young and don't have too much money. Thanks

Menards Masterforce if you don't mind the green color.
How wide are you looking at?

Looking for a double drawer bay. Maybe 44"? Not sure how wide the double bays usually are.

I have the menards masterforce at work. So do a few others guys. It works just fine and they get abused getting rolled around in a hangar. drawers are all still true and open just fine.

But TONS of guys have the HF roller. They seem to love it. for the money it seems like a good choice. I dont think you could go wrong with either box.

I know the masterforce is built by Montezuma and they build good quality toolboxes. then when you get some more money saved up you should get one of those slanted front boxes. they are so trick looking.

One of the more underappreciated tool box brands IMO is Waterloo. Ive seen several of their larger/nicer roll cabs that sell used in near perfect condition within your price range easily.

As Mentioned above.. Harbor Freight or MasterForce would be a good bet.

I believe Waterloo is the supplier of most Craftsman boxes which are generally ****..

Harbor Freight 42" ~ $350 Always on sale!

Harbor Freight 56" ~$800($700 w/coupon) Deeper and wider, also has latches instead of annoying drawer detents.

MasterForce has updated their entire line, added more colors and also ditched detents in favor of Grip-Latch type drawers.

I saw today that NAPA has the Homak Pro 41" top and bottom (8 drawer top chest, 11 drawer roller) along with a 34" roller cart on sale again for $999 (Red, Blue or Black).
A few guys at the shop have the Homak Pro boxes (26", 41", 56") and carts, and they're really damn nice.

Waterloo is very expensive for what you get in my opinion. They make craftsman boxes and we all know how their quailty has gone south. In gernal I would say the waterloo is a better box then craftsman seeing how in general the drawer and overall load rating is higher. Waterloo is also the oem for cornwell boxes so I do think can make a good box if they try, but those will all be outside the OP's price range. I can't beleive nobody has said this, what CL for a used SO KRA. There are two 40" on there by me now for around $450 to $600 range.

Well I just got back from Home Depot and saw a Husky 41" roll cab. Looks pretty good for my use and at $369 seems ok. I also saw a bigger 51" roll cab which also looks nice. Has a nice wooden top but couldn't find a price tag on it. The only complaint I have is that the drawers don't go too far back, they are not like the high end ones that go back 24 inches. What do you guys think about this one? Have any of you seen it?

The current Husky boxes I have looked at were thin tinny ****.

Key test for ANY box is to open the wide drawers and see how much they flex. Jus lean into it and it will "oil can"; How much is the key.

Sad to say, the HF wide "commercial" boxes beat the snot out of all I looked at in my local sears, HD and Lowes. On the other hand HF has some 26" wide boxes that are made of tinfoil...

Sears only had one box I saw that was even close to acceptable, and that was one made by an appliance Mfg. (Frigidaire? I can't recall...) Only 26" wide though

Right now it is on sale for $389. Seems like a steal. I would definitely purchase it if I was not moving soon. Does this go on sale often?

That is less of a sale price and more like an everyday low price. I have a coupon for $359 right now, which is the normal price they can be bought for.

I don't know if they supply Craftsman boxes, mine say something like "manufactured under license from Waterloo", my interpretation is it's Waterloo's design made by a low bid Chinese company. Either way, I agree, they are ****.

If you can find one, try to find an older Husky used. I've got one of the 41" ones, it's made by Waterloo, it's identical to the Mac Select MB4290, and I paid $400 for the roll cab and top chest. It's no Snappy, but it's $400, not $4000. Plus I throw the top chest in the bed of my truck for demo derbies. :pimpflash

dont get the new husky toolboxes please especially if its one of the ones with the weird full width front faces. the drawers start sagging and look really bad with that stupid face. and they just dont seem impressive to me. i really do urge you to go with one of your first two choices.

The master force is built by Montezuma. its a great box for the money.

I think for new go with Menards 54" greenies, they were just on sale, plus 11% off then use Discover for another 5% rebate. If used is ok I would go with truck brands via CL or GJ member. At the Sears Home store out here they have 1 top box that is built like MasterForce and wanting $679.00 for it. The rest of the box's are too thin and rattle.

The HF red roller is the best bang for the buck in that price range.

It's way tougher than the comparable Sears/Lowes/HD ones in it's price and size range.

Are they a SO/Mac box? No... but for $359 you can get a LOT of storage for your dollar.

Agreed! The Harbor Freight 44-inch roll cab is well within your price range, its a two-bay box for less than $400. And its built like a tank. The frame under the Harbor Freight 44-incher is really beefy (I checked).

It is the best box on the marke for the price bar none.
I was serching Craigs list 2 weeks ago and someone local was moving. They had this box with 2 side boxes. One hanging on both sides. It was brand new looking. They wanted $400 for all 3 boxes which was less than half price if you figure in the tax. I have 7 boxes and 2 kennedy boxes and I don't have any more room.

It is sitting on the patio out the sun. If I had space I could fill it. I have not figured out which grand son is going to get it. $200 for the box is a steal. I put the 2 side cabinets under my wood lathe and put all my turing tools and parts in one and filled the other one with all my carving tools and chisels.

Great tool boxes I gave all 4 of my son's one for Christmas years ago.

Keep an eye on Craigslist. There is a phone app that allows you to get instant realtime updates. Just search your immediate area and the term "Snap on" you will find plenty of used boxes in your price range. Move fast and bring cash. Post pics of your new box once you get it.

Wow guys thanks for all the responses. In my area, you rarely see Snap On boxes and when you do, they are VERY VERY overpriced but sometimes you get lucky. I will not be getting one until around Christmas so I just wanted to make up my mind on which one I want. Thanks!

Waterloo has made many nice boxes over the years, and I wasnt suggesting a cheap or new box. When someone says "roll cab" to me, I think 48"+, able to handle a good benchtop on it, and not likely used with a top box. More of a portable workstation vs a toolbox. The smaller ones to me are simply bottom boxes, and basically useless without a top box. Ive seen several very nice older (~20 yr old) larger Waterloo branded "roll cabs" on Clist lately here within the OPs price range, and they definitely were heavy duty boxes.
