I'm looking for a good hot glue gun for around the house type fixes, I was wondering if any of you fine people have any good or bad experiences with certain brands. Also looking to stay around $50 or so.

You could buy 12 $6.00 guns and have one in every room. Art students use them for days on end, year after year and they rarely break. They are pretty basic things.

The thing I found when looking for a hot glue gun is there is no "50 dollar" one, they are either the cheap ones or really expensive ones! I did find a decent one that the lowes and fleet farm sell that is made in the USA and I want to say it was around 20 bucks. I believe it's an Arrow and it works good.

If it's just occasional use a decent $20 ~ $30 one will work just fine, the real cheap ones are junk. If you use it a lot I've found the olde USA made ones are the best. I use one a lot and the the $15 ~ $20 Wal Mart ones don't last and don't work well. I found an old USA made Craftsman one that works great just wish it had a better stick feed, you kind of have to push on the glue stick till it get down a little bit so one with the feed thingy is good to get.

If you want to spend ~$50, this 3M:

But you'll likely do fine with an Arrow from HD.

That looks like a real nice glue gun but will it only use Jet Melt glue sticks? They're quite expensive, not sure if they're an odd size so you can't use the cheapo sticks or not. For as much as I use a glue gun I'd buy a $50 one if it'll last and use ordinary glue sticks.

I have one, I forget where it came from. It's blue with some orange on it. It works everytime I plug it in. It's been hanging around for 15+ years.

Blue and orange is ThermoGrip /Bostik.

I've got a half dozen of them with a couple going back to the late 80's.

Even use them for some mfgr. duty.

Some are pure corded. Some are gun plus powered base w/plugin vertical dock connector type.

They accept any sticks.

Not a big fuss. Work awesome.

I have this exact gun, and use it with glue sticks from Michaels's without an issue. Overall a nice gun. I think I picked it up from eBay for $30-40 new.

Think I found what might be a nice one, Arrow TR550, $18 ~ $25 and made in USA (I'll be picking one up):

http://www.arrowfastener.com/product/tr550-lever-feed-glue-gun

We use that multiple times here daily at the lab (and it's been left on over some weekends, too) and it works great. No problems whatsoever with it, doesn't have a tendency to keep globbing out glue once you let go of the trigger (we had a Stanley that did that every time), and the glue drip tray keeps it from making a mess if you set it down when it's on.

We normally go through about 12-15 full sticks a week with it, as an indication of usage.
