Hello everyone I am making my first on the forum here with a request. I am currently furnishing a hangar for my airplane and cars and have a huge 48 x 24 (tall) wall that I would like to cover with a mural of either car races or an aviation theme. Does anyone here have a source for something that size?

Thanks in advance for any help!

1st thought is more a DIY - borrow an LCD projector, and an image. Sketch it out from the projection, then fill it in. There's techniques to make an image int0 a "paint by numbers" outline - like posterizing.
2nd thought is to ask at your local vinyl ad wrap places - that's probably easier, but much more expensive.
3rd thought is really not what you asked for, but if you wanted to have a few different images, you could get a cheap LCD projector, and just do a slideshow on the wall.

I painted billboards for a living once... The size you're talking about is billboard size. Now they print them, so it may be easy to get something done.

At my current job we just had a construction barricade printed out for the Wrigley building in Chicago. I can check on the name of the company that printed it for you. But you will need high resolution graphics for them to print.

This all can get costly... Having someone set up the artwork, having it printed and then install it. I can help with the artwork, we could combine auto and planes in the same image. It would be photo realistic, using real images to make the image. Or we could copy old ads, posters...

Let me know if want to something,
James

Do you have a high school, community college or college nearby with an art department nearby? If so, you might be able to work something out with the school to have their students do the work for you.

If I lived close by, I would just paint it for you, that would be awesome. Take awhile, but would be unique. It sounds like no matter what you end up doing, it will cost a fair amount of $$$ or lots of time. Good luck and post pics when its done.

I'd have to look, but I have a large Boeing banner that is blue on what is like tarp material I'd let go real reasonable.

Find a local artist - they're around. Places like Atlanta Bread Company (South East) and some other business hire out similar work locally. Local college art departments may be a good place to start.

I print large format graphics for a living but the shipping from Michigan will kill you. Look for a Grand Format Digital printer in your area. You should be able to find the printing for about $1.25 per sq.ft.on 14 oz vinyl which puts you around $1500.00

You biggest channel is going to be artwork. **** in is **** out x 10. I would aim for a minimum of 30 DPI of resolution AT FULL SIZE. So have someone build a 1/10th size file (57.6" x 28.8") at a minimum 300 DPI. Spend the time and money on good art or else your wasting your money printing. PM me if you need help. I am also a pilot too.

Good Luck

I was going to suggest to check with a bilboard company. They do this size every day and consider them disposable.

BTW, Welcome to GJ. We have quite a few pilots among us here, but I see you've already found the Pilot thread. Glad you jumped in!

What about a mural made from tiles? There's that can print whatever you want on ceramic tiles, and when you install them it creates a huge mural. My company actually does this: www.ElementTile.com.

I'm having trouble finding images suitable for this size as most don't have enough resolution. I could handle the shipping, lets talk. My budget is 6,000.00

Long shot... Near a (perhaps smaller, private) liberal arts college? That gives degrees in art?

Contact them and see if it could be done as a student project. Might end up costing you little, but you'd need to work out a lot of details and of course they would have to have the right student/students to do the job. Probably could be done as an internship.

OK so just an idea if your guna go this way look for professional photographer that take pics of what you want then contact them they should have a resolution that is at least or more then 300 dpi or look at stock photography sights like corbis

You might have to pay something for the photo but the quality will be there

$1.25/sqft? That's a pretty amazing price - I would be surprised if you can acquire it that low.

With regards to the large image, another option is to manipulate a smaller image into vectors. You'll get a pretty interesting effect on the painting that won't blur at high resolutions but has an interesting effect. If you want to send me an image, I can show you what that would look like. PM me for email addy.

Plug in your zip code. I think Lawton in Dallas can help you out. I don't know about the Austin people. The Color Spot out of Atlanta has about two of everything for printing. I put your cost at 2-3k including some Postershop work for DPI.

I got the banner out. I was wrong on what it was. It is a banner from Boeing to Grimes Aerospace where Boeing awarded Grimes with the Presidents Award. I think it would make a better tarp than a banner
