Back story: I gave out Leathermans as Groomsman gifts. My Best Mans' now ex-girlfriend managed to be dumb enough to get it taken away by TSA at the airport.

I want to get him a replacement as a birthday gift. What say you?

I'm looking for Made in USA, good quality. Shoot me some ideas!

Splurge and get him a Gerber 471 explosives technician tool, with blasting cap trimmer and setting spike! Still USA, and when they catch him with THAT at the airport he'll get a free vacation in Guantanamo!

If I got it engraved it would be "Old Man" or some other deragatory phrase I think up :D

Good ideas so far, keep them coming! He's into the typical guy stuff, motorcycles, hot rods and boats. No need for heavy explosives yet...

I got the leatherman surge because the scissors were bigger on that model.

Not sure anymore about coo but I have been very happy with my Gerber 600 multi tool. Many leather man guys are not into gerbers and it may be a personal preference. I bought a wave and after a few weeks of carry the tools got tough to deploy. The thing I love about the gerbers
I have had is that the one hand opening feature let's me deploy it easier so I use it more. The patent on one hand deployment recently expired? Leatherman has a model out now from what I remember that deploys like my Gerber. The ti and alx leathermans are sleek looking but the ti-ni coatings on my gerbers have never rusted. I had one that sat in a cupholder for about a year wet. I soaked it overnight in vinegar and it was like new

I'm partial to the Gerber tools. My two favorites are my 400 & the Suspension models. Looking around their website I may be getting a Diesel.

I have a 400 and a 600, and for most things the 400 is just as good. I don't really like the new blades they have changed to, the tip gets dull quicker due to the shape, or, lack there of.

His Ex-GF was a theater person, lighting design, sound, stage rigging etc... She was flying and either forgot that it was in her bag, or didn't realize that you couldn't bring a knife past security. :lol_hitti TSA found it and instead of walking out of the airport to put it in her car, she just left it with them. :shocking:
