I just killed my craftsman c3 1/2 impact wrench. It was the older one I think with only one speed. I'm somewhat invested in the c3 ecosystem with like 8 tools and a couple of batteries. Tool use is completely hobby use mostly working on small engine stuff, wood working machinery restoration, home owner projects and light car repair. I'm thinking the obvious play is to buy the c3 heavy duty impact for around $100 but I'm curious if there are much better options. Could probably double that budget but not sure if I want to go much over that. Thanks

That budget probably isn't going to get a tool and a couple of batteries in a new system. We can be more helpful if you will tell us more about your needs and wants. Otherwise everyone who responds will just tell you what their favorite is.

I probably don't have very extreme needs for an impact gun. I would say one of my top uses for it is to try to shock off pulleys with a puller. Big projects for me this year have been a Parks planer restoration and an ezgo golf cart rebuild so various projects. I don't work on a lot of really big machines or change out a ton of tires. I think variable speed might be nice.

Check www.searsoutlet.com as they have a few C3 listing for various tools. If you find what you want, call the store and see if they'll ship or are f you can provide them a shipping label by email. That's worked for me when prices are really good but the store really far.

I do have a couple of m12 tools am impressed with Milwaukie quality. I do see a refurb mid torque kit on ebay for a bit less. Is that home depot like a regular deal or a special?

I don't know but my guess is because it is the far less popular ball detent version which requires a tool to remove the socket. It is for people that require positive retention either because they are on a scaffold or have regulatory requirements to meet. The friction ring is much preferred for most people.

Just pulled the trigger on the M18 Fuel Mid Torque with the friction ring kit from CPO tools on ebay. 15% coupon today means under $190 to my door with one battery and a charger can't seem to beat that. I guess i'm going to be into another battery eco system.

I have the newer C3 impact wrench, which is the one with variable speed and 300 ft/lbs of torque. It comes with the large 4ah XPC battery and charger, and it was $159.00 minus some points I had.

I am like you, and I have an extensive collection of C3 tools. I am not ready to switch brands just yet, so I went with the Craftsman impact wrench and I love it. It easily takes off lug nuts on cars, bolts on brake caliper brackets and stuff like that.

Here is picture of the one I have. It is still $159.00 as of today, 9-27-18, and it has free shipping and comes with the larger 4ah battery and charger.

Does it need to be a battery tool? If not a good compact 1/2 impact will see you right. Smaller than any electric tool and mine puts out around 800nm of torque.

If you need a battery tool then I heavily reccomdn the Milwaukee line, I have their m18 compact and mid torque and both are excellent.

The good thing with your choice is they will not just go **** up on you and they are committed to this battery ecosystem and backwards compatible moving forward
