I would recommend Bosch 150BCE (or equivalent model in the U.S.). It is lightweight but powerful (780W @220V in my Swiss built model) and cuts both wood and sheet metal with ease. Not very expensive. Makita 4350FCT is also good, although less powerful.

The OP went with a Bosch JS572EK

:see:

Thanks everyone for chiming in with your thoughts/advice. Much appreciated.

So I went to check out both barrel and D handle saws this morning and the D handle feels much more natural to me.

I've pretty much decided on the Bosch JS572EK. The double roller blade control pretty much put me over the edge on it

Update: I got the saw today and am thoroughly impressed. I made a couple test cuts tonight and the difference between the new Bosch and my old PC is night and day. Quieter, smoother, more power, lighter...Just better in every way. My old PC was good to me and I have zero complaints about it, but this Bosch is very, very, nice. Even the case it comes in is well thought out.

I'll put to good use this weekend on a fireplace remodel I'm working on. I'm actually looking forward to using it...

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Oh, and the best part? $120 delivered through Amazon Warehouse deals

This one was sold as new but open box. Not sure what to read into that... It came with everything inside still in the original sealed packaging, even the cord wrap was intact. But the "Bosch" security tape on the factory box was opened. :dunno:

I registered it with Bosch online no problem, so warranty is intact.

For info - everything sold through the warehouse is considered used and does not have a warranty other than the 30 day return period

Do products come with a warranty?
No. Used products generally do not come with a manufacturer's warranty but all of our items are backed by Amazon’s return policy. If you would like additional protection, you can purchase a warranty from Square Trade to cover certain items.

I buy plenty of stuff through Amazon Warehouse. Most of the time, the items look brand new and usually is 'package damage' situation or something along that line

Just keep in mind, technically you are limited to that 30 day return period, so just make sure you're happy with it before the time runs out.

Bosch - never had a problem with one of their tools

Update...

So I used the heck out of my new Bosch yesterday in an attempt to finally finish our fireplace re-tiling project and a couple other small projects around the homestead.

All I can say is that I'm very happy with it. I cut OSB, 3/4" plywood, and even threw a carbide blade in it and zipped through some Hardiebacker (this was a godsend, I hate cutting Hardiebacker). I used the jigsaw on some cuts that i'd normally drag out my circular saw for.

Anyway, I'm very happy with the purchase. Thanks for all the feedback/suggestions
