So I'm right at the edge of out growing my current Craftsman 26" chest/cabinet. The only thing local we have is Sears, Harbor Freight, Home Depot and Lowes, none of which have the right setup for me. Where else do you guys go? It's just my home box for indoor use and I'm no professional, so I don't need a Snap-on or Matco etc. I need one just a little bigger, 26" with a side chest, 32" or 40" nothing giant. I'm trying to stay under $1000. Any direction as to where else to look would be great.

Track down a tool truck and ask them what they have in used boxes. Some of these guys have a barn full of used boxes and love to wheel and deal. You can get a very good box at a good price this way.

I like a wider box with not top. Gives you an extra work surface if you can spare the space.

If you want to add on to your current setup the HF side box is a good value. You can keep an eye on craiglsist or other used routes but that may time some time, patience, persistence, and frustration. If you want to stay under 40" wide, and don't need a work surface, I would look for an industrial cabinet such as lista, vidmar or the like. The extra depth (28") drastically increases the storage space over the common 18" deep boxes.

I was in your position a couple years back and ended up checking out the strictlytoolboxes.com site after continually reading about them on this forum. You can browse by size or just about anything else. I ended up going with them and have never regretted it. Shipping is free, by the way.

Even if you don't go with them, you can get a good idea of the different sizes and so forth by looking at the site. And prices for comparison. I find the quality to be superior to all the others I looked at, including Craftsman, Husky, HF, etc., all the usuals. They are not Snap-on, nor do they claim to be.
