looking for a pole-barn builder recommendation

Hi,

I am interested in having a pole barn / detached garage built.

The dimensions would be 32x20 (960 sq feet) with 9 foot walls.

I would like to have two 10' wide garage doors that are 9' tall.

The siding must be vinyl siding to match my house.

The roof must be shingled to match my house.

I am in Michigan / Shiawassee county, between Lansing and Flint.

I have spoke to the local building inspector twice, to get verbal approval before having a building permit filled out.

I have been following up on leads for builders and wanted to check here on this forum as well.

Any other suggestions / recommendations for a builder or other are appreciated.

Welcome, can't help with your question but I would suggest that you educate yourself on pole barns by watching Youtubes and searching here also. Lot guys/gals here have been down that road. The more you know will help you make decisions on what you want and to help you make sure you are getting what you paid for and know what your looking at. Not knowing what to ask will send wrong message to your future builder.

I bought my building as a kit and assembled myself.
They do have crews that install too.

Assuming you meant 32 x 30 at 960 sq. ft....
Look into whether or not the building contractor also does the concrete floor.
I had to find a separate concrete contractor to pour my floor.

I just had a 30 x 32 built this summer. Metal roof and siding. 2-10' insulated doors.

Just the building supplies were ~15kish. Concrete was ~5k. Builder was right around 5k.

Assuming you're new to the area I would check online, contractors near you, reviews.
Building supply places (Home Depot, Lowes, etc) at contractor's desk ask recommendations. They should know the good and bad ones.
Check with local BBB

Online reviews can be "iffy". I had a 5 star painting contractor a few years ago. His contract stated "give me 5 stars for a 5% discount".

Probably going to need 10' ceiling height instead of 9' if you want 10'x9' overhead doors.

A few weeks ago I found the diypolebarns site right away. Researching online I found some reviews at both went both ways. I understand that no matter what, there are some people that will never be happy. I agree, Mark was very quick to respond.

I got a recommendation from the local home depot. That builder wanted $26k for labor only.

Today I heard back from the original builder that the lumber business (Iverson's Lumber) recommended to me. The lumber yard put together and estimate and sent me via eMail a "build package listing" priced out. It is about $13k.

I like the idea of looking at some Youtube videos and educating myself.

I would go to as many "old school" lumberyards as there are within driving distance and ask that very same question.

I always ask for two contact numbers because then it doesn't seemingly put pressure on the person giving out information to recommend the "one best solution". The best quality might not be the best price, and so what is best as a way to think about this. I have no problem interviewing two potential sources.

Always remember the "good fast cheap" conundrum. You pick any two.
