I'm looking for a polisher wheel for my angle grinder. I know the angle grinder spins (6500 rpm) faster than typical buffer/polisher, but I only want to use the polisher wheel to buff out plastic headlight lenses.

This is the kind of wheel I am looking for (pic below)... will this work, or am I crazy?????????????? I'm thinking that the style in the pic might simply disintegrate at 6500 rpm, so I'd like to find one that is made for high rpm's.

Maybe see what they sell at Chemical Guys, or Griot Garage.
Also 3M has solutions for things where you didn’t even know you had a problem/need.

That kind of speed will melt right through a headlamp lens. Get a mini polisher or even one of the kits for a power drill.

Don’t do it with a high speed grinder[emoji1304]. Odds are you’re going to burn right into the plastic, through the tape and paint on a close panel. Those edges and squared headlight lines are just waiting to screw you up!
Use a buffer, low speed polisher sander or by hand and you won’t have issues.

Even with a polisher WATCH RUNNING INTO EDGES. Try to polish OFF of not into them.

Yep, you're crazy. 3,000 rpm max. Now there are variable speed angle grinders than will do this easily and I've got four of them three corded and 1 Makita cordless but at 6,000 rpm you're asking for big trouble.

Harbor Freight and Milwaukee both make cordless 3" polishers that are great for this application. I've got the M12 Milwaukee which I basically dedicate for this purpose. The HF seems to be OK and is cheaper.

This, my polisher has a rotary speed controller that goes form 600 to 3500 rpm. If you still do want a wheel this would work. It's on the large side, and rated at 3000 rpm.

If your headlights aren't too bad regular liquid car wax and a soft rag will do.

For safety reasons, you’re really not supposed to use accessories on a motor than spins higher than the max RPM on the accessory, even if the motor has variable speed controls.
The reason, is that the speed control can fail, causing the speed of the tool to suddenly accelerate to its maximum speed, causing the accessory to disintegrate dangerously.
I believe this is one requirement under Osha regulations.
Angle “grinders” are manufactured in a number of speed ranges specifically because of this, although the lower speed “grinders” are usually called polishers.
