Don't mind spending the money for a quality one. I'd prefer standard and metric in the same gauge, but it would fine if it was separate. Needs to be made in the USA.

Any ideas?

starrett and brown and sharpe make very good thread gauges. the standard thread starrett no. is 155 for the large and 473 for the fine.

I bought a set of four discs from Thexton for about $10 that covers a LOT of different thread types, my only gripe is that first thing I wanted to use it with has a short threaded tube sticking out about half an inch from the "body" of the device so the disc can't reach the threads, but otherwise its both complete and accurate. Not sure if other thread gauges would even have the 10 28 thread. Works very well for sorting screws etc.

I admit to reaching for the Thread Detective set more than the thread gauges. Just easier for me to use on the common sizes (though it doesn't include 10-28 so Danglerb would've still been thwarted). The lanyard is a hassle sometimes, but you can snip it and just keep 'em all on a magnetic rail. Doesn't replace thread gauges, but it's a nice addition to them.

Either Starrett or Brown and Sharpe. I'm pretty "blessed" in that I've been messing with nuts and bolts for so long that I can identify SAE bolts and pitches without needing it, but I do have to keep a gauge around for this French garbage (Metric) that's been invading the world.

I actually have a thread detective. It will only do course and fine for each size. Looking for more of a pitch gauge.

I looked at the starrett website and couldn't find anything. Maybe some more searching around on there.

Take a look on eBay. Pretty easy to find.
You will see a number of different models.
(Different combinations of pitches included)
A Starrett catalog could help you decide which ones you might use.

Generally such pitch gages are kind of a rough guide anyway. I would think a less expensive brand would work out for most cases.

You can always count the teeth in a known length and work out the TPI, especially on outside threads. The gages get handier when trying to identify an inside thread.

A good portion of B & S and Starrett are no longer made in the US. There are always lots of old thread gauges on ebay.
