Looking for a ratchet with internal socket storage (ultra-portable set)

if i was using a tool that often, i would damn sure not be taking a cap on and off and dumping sockets in and out of the handle countless times a day. get a nice ratchet and a nice rail and mount the few sockets you need on a regular basis. it will keep them organised for sight inventory and the rail can be trimmed for length to take the least amount of room. the minute amount of space it consumes and the weight you save would more than likely be very little.

Exactly what I was thinking. Some sort of 'set' is bound to have sizes you don't even need in an environment like that anyway.

One problem I see with that plastic velcro thingie on the front page is that you'll need to have a bunch of sockets that fit and keep the tray full. Kind of hard to do unless the holder is sized to the group of sockets.

I missed this thread somehow. You sound like an electrical engineer. Carry the 15 pounds of tools. Yes the options ****, not really a way around it. Anything you find will be gimmicky and ****. Yes carrying bags with a ton of tools in it and having to search for everything *****. It is worse when they are over 100 lbs. I know.

Good on you though. Most engineers I have met you cant even get them on the boat let alone turn a wrench or screwdriver....

Been at this for several months now and have a pretty good system going with just as much capability as the guys lugging around 40 lbs of unorganized tools. I'll try to post a pic this weekend of what I ended up with. Few good ideas from this thread in between all the pointless posts saying just lug 40 lbs of **** lol

What always gets me with these special purpose toolkit threads, is they never seem to list the fasteners they need to work with.

Thats the first thing I do, make a list of potential fasteners and tasks, then pick tools for each and/or multi use tools that will cover more than one objective.
