Looking for a replacement box

My current box is Too Too Too full becasue of this i have been snapping slides and it's taking a beating.

Gentlemen i need advice while i don't have hardly any cash saved up i need a replacement YESTERDAY.

i am not a professional tech but i will use this thiogns hours on end 4 days a week the new box can only be a max 30" do to space constraints and like i said the used market is kinda out do to $$$$

i need ideas it's FULL if i look for a new box is it better to buy antoher cman and hope for the best or go to mac matco snappy and makea $75-100 a week payment the cheaper models seem to have more wasted space so a 6 drawer box is usesless when the drawers are all deep

advice please

Home Depot has some really sharp Husky 26" combos on sale right now. I know that Husky stuff doesn't get much respect on this board, but in the real world quite a few of the guys in the heavy duty diesel shop here use them with no complaints (The stainless Huskys outnumber truck brand boxes by at least 2 to 1). I've actually helped cut the top off of a few Husky top boxes to retrofit them into service truck cabinets.

harbor freight boxes are not that bad and they are pretty inexpensive! the mechanics at my work all use them.

Anything with ball bearing drawers will hold a pretty decent amount of weight. Almost all of our heavy duty shop guys keep up to 30mm and 1½" in their boxes, and invariably have a ¾" drive set in the bottom drawer.

I'm surprised the casters are still attached to your bottom box lol. What are in your other drawers? (If you don't mind me asking) From the looks of that picture, neatly organized, everything (except for that little gas can) can fit into a decent tool cart like a Matco Muscle cart or a Snap-On KRC40-type cart.

why not get rid of that riser, and find an 18" deep top box?

tons more storage than in a 12" deep box.

Assuming a top box is 12X27X18, and was SOLID STEEL (No air at all) it would weigh about 1633 lbs.

Your weight estimate is way off...

I don't know the price, but Costco has a hammered-finish tool box set right now that is probably within your size requirements for (I think) $300. It looks nice, comes with drawer liners, the ball bearing slides are fantastic, and it has gas rod struts for the lid. It looks really nice, the drawers slide better than my Craftsman ball bearing unit.

No it doesn't, the density of mild steel is about 0.284 lb/in^3 so taking a regular drawer in that toolbox we get approx 24*16*2=768 in^3 multiplied by that density gives us the weight of that drawer being completely full of steel as 217lbs. As far as weight of that individual socket given that a 20 piece 3/4" drive SK deep impact socket set has a shipping weight of 40.9 lbs I would say that socket weighs about 2 lbs. I can get out the scale in a couple of days to say so for sure.

As far as tool boxes go find one on sale with ball bearing drawers that doesn't feel flimsy.

My Miller Trailblazer 302 weighs about 550 lbs wet... stack three of these puppies on top of that box and then we'll talk about 1600 lbs...

If you have a relationship with a tool truck that will allow you to buy a box on the truck account, ask what they have used.

I got my used 52" wide MAC box from the Matco truck, paid it off $20 a week.

I was poking around looking at what is available in tool storage, and seeing if anyone has a decent 11 or 12 drawer roller similar to my old Husky. I didn't find any; the best I found in boxes under 30" had 8 drawers, and that was a lightweight, and therefor probably flimsy box. (harbor freight)

What is killing you is your 30": max width. It becomes VERY limiting, and there is not a lot of good rollers available @ 27" wide. Probably one of you your best bets is the Costco roller and top set but even that is only 7 drawers in the bottom, and 8 in the top (two columns)

You need to get creative and see what you can do about your current available space; Then you can start looking at the 42" rollers and a much better selection, not to mention deeper drawers...

Dead ringer for the 16-drawer HF replacement.

I bought one last week, the quality is great. The issue I have is I'm not a mechanic and don't have that many tools, however I've managed to fill just about every drawer? :(

Great box.
