I want to buy a quality claw/rip hammer between 12oz to 15oz (340g to 425g) with a wooden handle. The problem is the only ones that I can find are the Vaughan 13oz claw hammers. I already have them in larger sizes. I'm not looking for titanium hammers. Can you recommend any?

Maybe i misunderstand. But are you saying Vaughan is not quality?

I use Stiletto for framing...but carry Vaughans for ugly/demo work as to not mess up my Ti fangs and waffle.

The Vaughans are quality in my opinion.

You misunderstood me, all I use is Vaughan hammers but I want to try something else in a smaller size but can't find any.

Do you have any suggestions?

Gotchya. I used to use a Dead-On 28oz framing hammer(Now a 14oz Stiletto). It was a damn good hammer and I put it through the paces. Here's a link to their hammers and they have a 12oz smooth face with Hickory handle. $25 IDK COO off hand. Back then I didn't know to care. http://www.deadonstore.com/tools.htm

Dalluge makes good tools. They have a 16oz trim hammer-bigger than you said. $24 COO USA. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VYJHA4/?tag=atomicindus08-20 the Dalluges fell like the handle is too large in circumference, and I have big hands...but I am used to my Stilleto, so....(EDIT): They also make 12oz hammers $16-17...http://www.toolorbit.com/Categories/Finish-Framing-Hammers.html

Douglas makes a nice 15oz finish hammer. $65usd-75au. COO USA http://www.douglashammers.com.au/products-page/finish-hammers/ The Douglas feels oddly balanced to me, but once again, I am super biased to my Stilleto

But let me ask, why do you not like/want Titanium? Have you used them?

Mainly due to the high price, I want to keep it below $40.

I never used titanium hammers so what weight would be comparable to a regular 12-15oz hammer? And do they make <$40 small titanium hammers?
