My Snap On Driver didn't have one and I really would like to get one. It is for my glow plugs on a 6.5 diesel, I have been using two wobbles, but I would prefer something that stays together better. Anyone know who makes one?

Are you looking for the discontinued 1/4 drive deep flex socket in 3/8 socket size?
The best bet is Ebay do not believe any one else makes one.
If you were closer I would lend you mine. My driver had some buried in his socket stock but they are hens teeth and now in my tool kit.

I honestly do not care who makes it, I am just looking for one for the future at this point. Do you know the part number?

Aren't those glow plugs 10mm?

Would a 3/8" drive deep swivel be too big to fit where it needs to? you can always use a reducer if you need to use a smaller ratchet or thinner extension.

If they are 10 mm, 3/8" fits better. :dunno:

I would prefer not using 3/8 drive, it is a squeeze on the passengers side.

Besides, now that I know they are hard to find, I just want one. ;)

I stand corrected. The 3/8 deep 1/4 drive flex socket is 12 points the part number is STMU21. The 10mm deep flex 1/4 drive is 12 point also and it is currently in the catalog and part number is STMUM10A.

Looking back in the 1990 catalog, Snap on made the deeps only in 12 point SAE.

In 2001, the deeps was only available 12 point metric.

Don't know if anyone made the deeps in 6 point. :dunno:

Good luck on finding what you need.

Good luck with that.

SO makes a locking 1/4 flex and a mid 3/8 socket might do the trick.
but I would look at deep 3/8 flex in 3/8 drive it has a small foot print.

If one didn't need the full depth of a deep socket, and it was broached deep enough, might be able to trim a little off, add a 1/4" universal, and end up with the same effective length as a dedicated 1 piece swivel socket. Add superglue or weld as desired.

I will need to check the depth, but it may be cutting to the correct length will do it.

Snap on currently makes the stmum10 deep 10mm 1/4 drive in 12 point only now

A few years ago Mac made them in 6 and 12 point in 7-14mm you see them on eBay every once in awhile

And the gearwrench 1/4 10mm is 6 point and more of a semi deep compared to everyone else

I hope this helps

Unfortunately, I don't seem to have any 10mm glow plugs. I use AC Delco and they require a 3/8" socket.

I am not sure what size the SS Diesel socket is, will have to check into that.

Aren't those glow plugs 10mm?
GM 6.2/6.5 AC Delco GPs and Ford 6.9/7.3idi Motorcraft/Beru GPs are 3/8" hex. Pretty sure junk GPs like Autolite are 10mm hex, and only good for burning up and ballooning out so they get stuck in the head.

Now I'm interested in finding one of these sockets too!

I have never used anything but the AC Delco and never had any issues, ever.

Re: Looking for a socket 1/4" drive deep swivel 3/8" size six point preferred

I have swivel socket set for glow plugs in 3/8 drive made by laser .
for 1/4 I would custom a 1/4 deep and quality 1/4 swivel, drill a hole for a grub screw in the socket so retains the swivel .
Broke fair few 1/4 extensions on glow plugs but indeed sometimes it about only drive that access into the plug location .

Here is 3/8 performance socket 1/4 drive
discontinued 3/8 -1/4 drive flex socket
3/8 deep flex socket 3/8 drive
1/4 drive mid 3/8 socket on locking flex

the deepest broach is on the performance socket

Can you confirm part number? I am coming up dry on that one.

If the 1/4" Snap-on mid length is broached like the 3/8" mids, it would only be good for GPs with bullet connectors, but not spade connectors.

I spotted that Snappy locking extension while looking for GP flex socket ideas. That with a Gearwrench full broach mid socket (80121S) might work well. Or drill and tap one side for a set screw with a regular flex extension.

I just ordered both 1/4 drive 3/8" 6 point shallow universal socket and 6 point deep socket. Will figure out how to meld them together after they get here. May have to do the same thing with a 9 MM as that seems to be the size for really rusty ones.

Follow up; I ordered a GW 1/4" drive 3/8" Mid depth at the end of last month, just got back to town yesterday and can confirm it does NOT fit glow plugs with a spade connector, but should work on GPs with bullet connectors. I'll have to confirm next time something comes into work with them.

Thanks for the update, I have not "made" my Frankenstein socket yet, but the locking swivel may end up being all I need.

Another follow up:
I traded a toolbox for a 7.3IDIT Diesel with "bullet" style glow plugs, and can confirm that the Gearwrench Mid-depth won't work with it either. The hex end of the socket just barely makes contact with the hex of the GP before bottoming out on the post.

Oh well, off to eBay it goes.

This may not help now, but a year or two ago I had to cut a socket to get at the glow plugs on an old M4000 Kubota tractor. I was not easily able to get to the last plug, but 5 out of 6 new plugs was a grate improvement. I dont remember the size, but I can look at the socket tomorrow,

Seems like someone should make one, but it looks like they don't really care about the old school glow plugs. Cutting down a deep socket may work, I feel like I couldn't find one in 6 point though.
