This is in my workshop in my basement, but a bunch of wiring and duct work goes through it since that is where CB panel is too. so i was redoing my ductwork because it is loose and there are leaks. As soon as i dropped the old duct which was about 6 ft. long i found that all this electrical conduit that was run at some point just dropped! It was not attached to anything, not stapled up , just laying on this old duct pipe. NOT CODE! Probably not safe either.

I put a new duct start collar in where its marked with yellow. (1st pic) and before i finish putting new duct in I want to attach the conduit so it is in proper and within code. My original thought was to use something like these clips (2nd pic) i had, but thinking this is maybe not the best idea.

You can see all the BX armored cable attached to the main center beam of the house so you can see there is no more space there. I was thinking maybe running a 1x6 perpendicular to the floor joists and then using wiring staples to hold it up to the ceiling (1x6).

But i was figuring maybe i would post to find out if there is another option that might be better. Any product i haven't seen? Any ideas? I just want something to hold them up , i don't want to rewire by going back to the CB box and rerunning.
Any questions? thanks

Can you run the 1" lumber perpendicular to the floor joists and using metal cable ties lash the BX to the running board? I have used EMT or even water lines to support NM and BX cable.

Any advice you get from me is guaranteed to be worth exactly what you have paid me for it. All work is guaranteed until your check clears the bank.

sorry about the wrong terminology

As far as lashing it to the BX i thought that was against code . My understanding is that each individual cable had to be fastened individually.

So what i was thinking was leave all the BX intact and not mess with that. I would take a 1x6 and attach that to the floor joists. Then all those loose cables would get attached to that 1x6 . So that 1x6 would be at a right angle to the BX cable(s).

Thanks

I had seen something like this for new construction, but was wondering if there as something like this for retrofit

of course this wouldn't work because those cables would need to be rerun

I like the 3/8" one-hole straps for AC/BX cables. Or zip-tie to existing things.

Cable bundling is subjective. 'Sparingly' ought to be sufficient, but code has to make things black or white. Wrapping a half-dozen-plus cables into a 10' long metallic python isn't a good idea. 2-3 cables for short distances... well.. would take some serious loading to compete with the heat dissipation of metallic armour.

Still have to add some wire staples in a few places (for the coax) and add some slack around the heat vent that is there but this is what i did.

Added some 1x4 perpendicular to the main beam (w all the BX cables) (basically on the underside of the floor joists)

When the heat duct is added none of this will be seen and it will not be in contact with any of the heat ducts.
