I have seen many for holding wires. Need something bigger to hold the odd Amphenol multi pin connectors.

High quality and made in North America would be a bonus.

When I had to do a lot of 24 pin connectors I made a a base for the other end out of some old wood . That way it would connect together and not move and I could do what I needed.

I've found the "third hand" thing to be very expensive, they usually want kids and using them as third hand only works for a couple of years then they tend to go off to college(more expense) and you need the original third hand back who wants to go out to dinner first or shopping.............................better off just getting a pair of vice grips.

Panavise for me
This is what I use when doing any soldering work. I have had a Panavise for about 45 years now. I have the nylon, brass and steel jaws for it. Mine is a slight green aqua color before they started painting them silver. Sometimes I will use a small forcep to hold on to the wire, resister, diode etc and then clamp the forcep in the vice to secure the work

I have a QuadHands that I use for my electronic hobby needs, and it's very easy to use and adjust, as well as made in USA. They make a few models and even ones that you can mount a PanaVise to.

+1 on surgical clips. Especially the plier like in stainless with a clever multiposition self locking mechanism.
And also this.
When you hold a small piece between fingers of one hand and the solder iron with the other hand:
NEVER LET GO the part you hold cause it is hot.
Sweat it out.
If you drop it , you will just do the same thing over, two burns instead of one??
Been at it for +60 years!!

Don't ask.
Lightweight vise with soft (rubber) jaws. I've used clamp on, suction cup and weighted bases. I prefer the weighted base one.
I also have used a "sand bag" (actually was a bag of lead shot) for similar tasks.

OP stated he wanted to hold Amphenol connectors- not wires. The "helping hands" will not hold an Amphenol; the Panavise suggestions will.
