Looking for a torque stick

Do they make a torque stick that is rated at a 180ft/lbs.? I need it to be ½” drive if possible and I would like one where I can put the socket onto the torque stick. So far have not found one they seem to make one in every other size.

Is 175 close enough? Torque Stick 175 ft/lb Accurate to 4%

4% if 175 is 7
175+7=182

1/2 Drive 175 ft-lbs

There is also a 3/4 drive version. After that it jumps to 250 ft-lbs.

are you using the 'right' impact at exactly the right pressure? because if not, you're not likely anywhere near where the torque stick claims it should be. use a torque wrench if the torque setting is important.

If it's for wheels, it's fine. Should always be rechecked with a torque wrench though.

Then why bother with a torque stick ?

Last "high volume" tire store I was at, the tech used a torque stick and then a torque wrench. Then a second tech came by and double checked all of them. Plus they told me to come in a week later for a "lug nut torque check".


In "my day" torque sticks did not exist and no one even though about using a torque wrench !

I'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy, but even I get tired of all the 'can't trust the torque stick' constant posts.
No, they ain't perfect.
Neither is your torque wrench.
Or the clown using it...
Pete's sake, my wife had a set of tires put on a van once. They used a torque wrench. Then a wheel started coming off on the way home. Yep, torqued perfectly, except for the one wheel they forgot to even tighten the lug nuts.
15 down perfectly, 5 overlooked.

Test a torque stick when you first get it. Use a tiny little bit of common sense and the same settings on the same gun next time and you will be closer than the illegal alien teenager who probably put your tires on at the tire store.

Yeah, apparently I was killed many times by wheels falling off, just don't remember it clearly...
First time I ever saw anyone use a torque wrench for a wheel I was about 40.
Had logged over a million miles in my own cars before that date.
I do use torque sticks today, because I can afford to.
I used torque wrenches on my vehicles over the years when I had them, and the time, and because I could.
But an X wrench has put down more tires for more miles than the torque wrench.
Nothing replaces common sense and some thinking about it.

I own a torque wrench now and I use it !


Those old cross wrenches could apply a lot of torque even from a 16 year old kid ! I never busted a lug, but I put some on so tight the customer could not get them off !!

I use torque sticks all the time. I don't think I've ever used a torque wrench to tighten down lug nuts. If I have, I don't remember it. I've never had a wheel come loose.

If used properly, torque sticks are fine.
