I drive a service truck for a living working on generators of all sizes. I currently have a 3 drawer cheapo top box in my side bin. Id like to find a box that's not a piece of **** and put in there. It must be under 45"x14"x16" I would love to have one that exact size but obviously that will be hard to find. I assume I'll have to get a mid box.

I'm looking for something decent but probably not snapon priced. Preferably under $300 anybody seen something like that recently?

Ouch, the 16" and 48" are going to be a bit challenging to meet especially when you throw in the budget constraint.

dowmace, 45" Wide by 14" Deep by 16" High?

I have put boxes in service truck compartments several times. I've had to cut out part of the body a couple of times to get the box in, then weld it back together. I've used Craftsman boxes with friction slides because I travel on rough roads a lot and ball bearings eat dents in the slides from the vibration.

I cut the lid off a top box and depending on the amount of height I have available either use the top as a bin or mount the box so high the top drawers barely clear the top of the door opening and waste the overhead space.

I put a box in the long compartment over the wheel well one time by cutting a hole in the floor of the compartment, raising the box up through it, and welding the piece back into the hole. I always regretted not putting a second box in that compartment beside the first one.

In my old truck I cut the back wall out of the bin and slid in a top box but the new truck has a really expensive brand new stahl bed on it so Im not keen on cutting it.

I know I won't find a box those exact dimensions, I'm probably going to end up with two 20" top boxes with lids cut off.

A 16" deep 26" wide top sitting on a middle section is probably the cheapest way to go. A 40"wide craftsman top box may work too, they use to be 16" deep. I don't know about the new ones since they redesigned. Otherwise a Montezuma road box may work also.

Just wanted to update this thread since I never came back to it.

The box on the left I've had for years and it was the first box I ever owned, as you can tell it's got some wear on it and is due to be replaced. The one on the right is a task force that I swindled out of lowes for 10% off the sale price, which was already discounted because it was the display. Red is not my color (see my posts in the GREEN tools thread) so I gave it a quick coat of valspar green, it's not the best but it has a nice sheen to it. and it'll hold my tools just fine.
