I just picked up a Atlas 1060 drill press to restore. I can't seem to find the script style atlas badge that would go on the front. Does anyone know of any reproductions made?

Here's the badge I need.

That stinks. I found someone on ebay selling the whole guard and the description says it has a plastic Atlas badge. That makes me think there are reproductions out there.

I have an Atlas planer and the script is plastic. They were all made of plastic that I am aware of. I don't know if the dp and planer are the same size, but it would be easy to make a mould to cast them.

I was thinking about trying to get it 3D printed if I can't find a replacement.

Really!? That would be great! PM me how much you would want to do it.
I wouldn't charge you anything, not even worth getting postage either. I have access to a laser cutter and graphic design skills. I'll have to check the capacity but I can make it from aluminum no problem. Finding a way to break the edges is the hard part.

Edit: they don't look that rounded on the faces, just the edges. I wonder if a really fine deburring wheel would work.

That would be awesome! Thank you!

The edges are rounded but I really don't care to much about that. I just know that big empty spot is gonna drive me nuts when its done.

Luckily I was able to find the script logo on some old publications! These are what I am going from.

Those are perfect!

Here are some photos for scale
you can still see where the badge was.

I finished the basic prototype. Letters still need to be punched out though.

Here's the basic idea, find catalog, use Photoshop to isolate text and export the white jpeg. Then open up in illustrator, trace the outline with the black and white preset and show outline only. Then copy that path into another page and scale to the right size, set line width to .03pt, export and send to the laser cutter. Cutting acrylic took only about 20 seconds, I will try to punch out the letters later today!

Well, it could have gone worse.

I got it out without any hunks missing but broke it down the center. I glued it with cyanoacrylate glue and will paint it in the morn. On my next attempt I will use thinner plexiglass, or even some hdpe if I can get my hands on it.

I'm in need of the same emblem to replace the broken one on my Atlas DP. I would be more than happy to contribute $$ to the cause. Please add me to the list!

Thanks!

This could turn into a good business, there are lots of people that need badges for lots of things. Collector cars comes to mind first.

Scimonetti came to the rescue on that one. Very nice.

If for some reason that ends up not working out, I have one that you can have for free, although I will have to check the size.

If it is the same size as the one that came on the Atlas jointer, its yours for postage.

I found some hdpe (cutting board and milk cartons) using a slower cut speed than normal with the same power somehow beveled the edges and it didn't even need to be popped out.

I will be painting and clear coating these tonight. Pm me your address if you want one. I have 3 right now but I can make more in about 20 seconds each!

Scimonetti, did you get a chance to mail any of these out yet? I have not received one, so I thought that I should ask. Thanks.

They are all there! Post up a picture when you get it installed and be careful, before they are glued down and supported they are quite fragile.

THANK YOU!! It fits perfect. I'm pretty sure I would have never found the real badge short of buying another DP. I'll get another picture when it's all done.

Awesome! I don't have the dp so I was really hoping they would fit based on the pics I scaled to.
