Looking for a Waterloo tool box my dad built

Hello everyone and thank you for reading this.

My dad worked for Waterloo Industies from 1959-1978. He started in assembly and worked his way up to supervisor during these years. He became friends with the Sulentic family that started the company. He was chosen to be part of the teams that started up their new factories in Sedalia, MO and Pocahontas, AR. All of this occurred before I was born in 1973.

During the 60’s, Waterloo Industries was making prototypes to gain interest with racing teams. They gave these boxes to race teams Waterloo Industries were sponsoring at the time, as a thank you and to show appreciation.

This box is a large top chest in a black, with gold drawer trim. It had an emblem attached with crossed checkered flags in the upper right corner on the front. I cannot remember how many drawers, but I think it had 9. It had a flip up lid and was a deep box as well as wide and heavy. As a young kid, I can remember playing with it and always loved looking at it.

My father was given one of these as a gift for his work helping set up the new factories. He had a picture taken with this box at the time it was given to him. I am trying to track it down currently. It is the only photo we have of the box that we know of.

It was giving to my older brother years ago, and he kept it, for awhile. I’m not sure when or why, but he sold it. No one else in the family knew he did, and my father is sick to death that he did. The box is rare and has significant sentimental value to him.

I am on a quest to find one of these boxes. I’m not holding out hope to find the exact same one, I’m not sure how I would identify it. I do not have any model numbers or serial numbers either. I only have memories of it. I am doing this so I can surprise him with one. I appreciate any help in locating one.

Have you thought about placing a Craig list add in the area where your brother lived when he sold it? I've been here fir five years and I know I've never seen a picture of such a beast posted. But then again this place is as resourceful as it gets. If one exists I have no doubt it'll be someone from here that locates it for ya. Good luck

We currently live in the same area he sold it. I have not posted an ad, but I will consider it. Thank you.

What a neat thing to do for your Pops. I sincerely hope you find the one you're looking for.

Question for you....Is Waterloo still made in Sedalia?

Good luck Man.

I believe it is. I think they moved the “world” headquarters there. It is no longer located in Waterloo, IA.

I can’t even imagine selling something like that. Why in the world did he do that? :dunno:

A photo would really help.

There's no accounting for the stupidity of family. I have a brother like that myself. He sold a pair of 1950's Chris Craft 24" 5 blade bronz propellers of mine for scrap.

Have you tried a Google image search, The Crane Guy? It's sometimes amazing what kind of oddball images Google can zero in on.

It was probably a special order for one customer. One would only hope that they didn't all end up in the dumpster somewhere after the company got sold off or closed.

Waterloo Industries is still making toolboxes today.

CraneGuy: Have you tried calling Waterloo? Their customer service folks are great. They might have an old employee there who has one or maybe they know of a pic hanging somewhere of the boxes. If it was me I'd give it a shot.

Again, good luck!
