I came across a company that made hangers, (not sure if thats the right word) for building a pole barn. If I remember correctly, by using them you could eliminate using roof truss. I can not find the web site but I think the company was based out of PA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am starting the plans for a 24 x 36 pole barn. I have 16 6x6x10's left over from my house build that I am going to use as posts. I also have a bunch of lumber left over as well so I am trying to use that to save costs. My thoughts are to frame out the back 12 ft and make a shop with a 2nd floor storage area, so I am looking into my options for height and usable space for the roof design.

Be sure and check post length requirements before you go to far. Mine are 4' into the ground. Won't leave you much head room.

Back in the day, houses and garages were built with rafters and cross ties. Back before trusses were so widely available. They also lend themselves to usable storage spaces. My brother and I built a 24' X 30' garage with rafters and ties going across the 24' span. The first ones are the hardest to set with the ridge beam but after the ends are up its a piece of cake.
