Good luck. The problem I have found is most of the standard sizes are in the 6' or smaller and they are only 24" or 18" deep with stainless tops.
You will most likely have to go custom.

If you do want to buy one like that, check out Cman. Otherwise build it yourself like everyone else says.

I WISH Snap On still sold that one. I was about to order one and discovered they had discontinued them about a month before.
but for something 8 feet long, I'd look at a custom build. Probably find a stainless top (or a whole bench) in a supply shop that deals in manufacturing tables and restaurant counters.

Would you consider Lista? We could come up with a similar configuration. I did this 8' mobile one recently for a client. Shoot me an e-mail and I can help you.

C-man sells a modular 8' bench similar to that. That's a top and a frame, then you add a drawer unit on one side or the other.

I have the 8' craftsman professional series bench. I love it, its high enough to sit on a stool at it. Mine has the wood top but they sell the stainless top for it as well. I got mine used for dirt cheap but they aren't bad new if I am remembering right.

I've got the 8 foot Craftsman bench and I am pretty happy with it. I've got the five drawer option under each side. The bench is pretty stout with this set up but the roller-drawers are the average thin Craftsman drawers.

I'd love to have a Lista set up as mentioned above - but my entire Craftsman bench cost a fraction of a Lista set up.

I bought the entire set up, including the maple butcher block top for about $500ish including taxes. I think I bought everything for 30% off by buying the parts on sale and having the local Sears store match online pricing.

I added a shelf using Ikea supports and a "reclaimed" butcher block top for a 6 foot bench. It's about half way done in these pictures. Since these pictures I've coated the shelf in polyurathane and added a black metal back so things can't roll backwards off of the shelf.

Here's what I bought:

Currently $176

Currently $160 each, I got two:

And the top, currently $160

If you live near an Ikea, check out their butcher block tops. They have a decent price on a butcher block tops too.

You can always find something that will work but you can never find something that is just right for you. I am trying to design my own work space in the garage but nothing commercially really fits my needs.

Plan it out and build or have it built.

What are the angular pieces of tubing used for in the Ikea products? I like the way they slant back. Really gives the upper shelf a modern look.

The example in the Ikea display was a kitchen counter counter top. The legs/supports are for adding a breakfast bar sort of thing to the counter top.

That is a neat idea for a top tier. How sturdy is the top section? How is the top attatched to it, from underneth with small screws? I might have to use that idea on my bench.

Appologies to the original thread poster, oldno3fan. I probably should have posted this info/pics on a separate thread.

The supports are pretty sturdy once everything is tightened down. I only had half of the screws in the back three legs tightend when I did a "sturdy" check and the shelf wouldn't budge. I staggered one of the four legs, it is mounted ahead of the other three, underneath the shelf as it curves on the right hand side. It's a VERY sturdy shelf once all the screws are tightened.

The stainless seems a little soft and the supports don't seem to be 100% square - but they're acceptable for $15 per pair. The bottom of the leg has a single largeish bolt that goes through the countertop. At the top of the leg is a square flange that is made for four screws. The screws are really cheap and a striped a half of the first eight I installed. I ran down to the hardware store and got quality screws with a head that would work with a 1/4 inch socket. The new screws made it much easier to tighten everything down.

Here's the finished product. Now I just need to find another block grinder to mount above the current grinder.

How deep is the overaall countertop from the outer edge to the wall? I've got what looks like the same vintage Craftsman DP (150) and with the motor hanging off the back it's pretty deep, deeper that I was expecting, so I'm looking for options on how best to place it in my garage. I like the looks of your set-up.

Check out searsoutlet.com and type in "Craftsman Work Surface" to see if there are any cheap work surfaces for your Cman bench. I got the 6 foot bamboo top for $40 (Reg. $150-$200). I cut the top into 2 pieces for my rolling cabinets. I will use the scrap for a kitchen cutting board.

4 types of surfaces available: MDF, Maple, Bamboo and Stainless.

Also check to see if they have your 8 foot frame available. There is one in my area for only $100 or so.

You can save some major $$ if your'e lucky and they have your items on clearance at a local Sears in your area.
