Looking for advice on Garage AC

I'm in Austin TX and contemplating adding an AC unit to my garage to make it much more enjoyable to work in 12 months of the year. I'm not looking for 70 degree level AC, but something that can pull out the humidity and get it down to the mid 70's. Garage is a three car garage measure 600 sq ft with 10ft ceilings. Couple questions for the experts here:

- AC Sizing: I was looking at the Mr Cool DIY units via Costco. According to the Spec Brochure, they recommend the 18k BTU unit. I would prefer to get the 12,000 BTU unit as its 120V and would be much easier for me to install. Would this unit be really undersized? Hoping someone with experience could offer some advice if I should go with the 12 or 18k BTU unit.
- Indoor Unit location: Just wanted some thoughts on where to mount the unit in the garage. Was thinking right over the stereo on the top of the back wall. Any thoughts?
- Outdoor Unit Location: Just want to confirm I could place this right next to my home AC unit behind the garage.
- Electrical Question: I have a electrical sub-panel in my garage. Main panel is way on other side of a two story house. Sub-panel breaker slots are full. Is it possible to add another 120V or 240V circuit to this panel? It seems like there are breakers that serve two circuits in the space of 1 breaker. The Mr Cool 12k unit is 120V, 18k unit is 240V. Could I even run a 18k unit in the garage or do I have to completely upgrade my sub-panel?

Many thanks!
Dan

What Shade said plus buy the right one for the job, a little bigger never hurts either. I tried the “do it just enough unit” and it didn’t work. The unit just couldn’t pull the heat out and ran all the time.

Thanks for the input. Any thoughts if I can add a 240V circuit to my sub-panel without upgrading the whole box?

Dont see any extra slots in the sub panel but you might be able to use a couple of tandems to free up some space. Also depends on what it is fed from ?
