Looking for advice on keeping compressor outside

Hey everyone,

The title basically says it all. I recently acquired a Quincy QT-5, and really the only place to put it would be on the outside of the shop. Right now, I’m intending to build an enclosure for it that will keep it out of the elements and help to keep the noise from driving the neighbors crazy.

Does anyone here have their compressor outside and would have a few photos of their setup or words of advice to share?

My thoughts and concerns:
-Not too concerned about freezing temps- here in Atlanta we only dip below freezing for a few day out of the year.
-I’m concerned about heat buildup in an insulated four-walled enclosure. I’m thinking soffit vents at the top and wall vents low on the sides to let convection pull the heat out. Possibly a powered vent fan that cycles when the compressor cycles

Anything that allows air to circulate is going to let the noise out. You just can't avoid that. You can absorb some of it with porous dense material. Put your vents near the ground and add angled deflectors to deflect the noise at the ground. Let the grass absorb some of the noise. Add a stack at the top to shoot that noise at the sky. Air will circulate from the bottom up. I would add screens to keep the mud daubers and other nasty insects out.
