I'm going to look at this setup today. I need some advice on pricing. What would be a good price if the tanks are out of date? What about if they are rentals? Basically what would be a deal deal deal price as this is a want and most definitely not a need.

Oxygen regulator is union carbide.
Acetylene regulator is victor.
Torch is uniweld with only 1 tip.

It's about an hour drive each way.

The torch is semi obsolete, the regs are good but old and the bottles may be worth a hundred a piece depending on how bad you want them. maybe more.

Depends what the local gas shop says. It may be a deal on a torch or a deal on a boat anchor/future chimes.

Check with local weld supplier see if they will fill or exchange the bottles. Torch set up worth the money. Gauges alone and hoses unless dry rotted should be worth asking price. Worst case on tanks weld supply may charge you for hydrostatic testing on bottles if they are out of date.

Worst case they confiscate the tanks, 2nd worse they tell you they are scrap and to go pound sand. Just having to pay for hydrostatic testing is about the 2nd best case he could hope for. It is a VERY regional thing.

I worked for 4 different weld supplys It use to be standard if you had a reciept for the sale they would fill or exchange your tanks. That size in the pic are the sizes that most of the weld supplies sell outright. 15 yrs. in the business never took anybodys tanks. Either filled the tank or swapped it.

I'm going to go check it out. If the hoses and regulators look good I'll offer him $100. If not I'll come home. I have 2 welding supply places local so hopefully one of them will swap me.

What kind of receipt should I have the guy sign?

100 would be a deal. I would buy them as extra at that rate. The only receipt that meant a thing would be an original sales slip, from another owner useless.

So I might just be screwed on the tanks? Oh well. I'll see what happens.

Not totally ask him where he got them filled at if he has a refill reciept get one and a reciept of the sale between you 2. Take both copies with you to your weld supply they should e able to work with that. They can call the weld supply that has been filling them to verify.

He knows nothing about them. They were his father's. He has never used them.

Ask for the name on the neck ring. See if they are still in business locally. Unfortunatly being sunday you'll have to wait till tomorow to get in contact, but I'd take this opportunity to educate yourself on the local weld shop bottle regulations.

I would go for it most weld supplys will work with you. The ones I worked for allways did. As long as you can get a reciept between you two. your weld supply should work with you. Hows the hoses look.

Quality stuff at a good price. Every once in a while you run into a crabby Local welding shop. If you don't like what they say take your business elsewhere. I own all my tanks in every size they make and have a great local guy to deal with.

Appears you have 2 complete set ups. The small set is used for A/C work and the big set for larger jobs. I just had my O2 Victor regulator rebuilt, cost me $65.00 for O2 cleaning (black light) and rebuilt You definitely get a BIG YOU ****

Maybe I missed it. What is on the ring? Is it slick? Is there a name stamped in the acetylene bottle?

The acetylene regulator looks like it might be in good shape. Put some pressure to it and see before rebuilding. First back the stem off completely and see if it holds. (Hose off please) this way it can't over pressurize. Then start to screw the stem down and see if it will hold at five pounds then 10 with your finger against the outlet. If it does then hook a hose and see if it will maintain. Do it the same for the oxygen regulator and see (no grease on fingers please). They may not have to be rebuilt. I have picked them out of a scrapyard for scrap price and turned out nothing was wrong with them. They just looked old. Yes they were victor regulators.
