I just installed four 4x8 Saferack overhead storage racks and need to get it organized. I checked out GlobalIndustries Nest Storage which look great and are durable but it was over $1000 to get enough bins that I would need.

I then looked at the Sterilite el-cheapo brand but I know you get what you pay for and they crack easily.

I currently have the gray Rubbermaid Tough bins but they **** as well (bought at Home Depot) and have cracked and started to fall apart.

Any other recommendations for a decent quality storage bin without breaking the bank?

Akro mills 39120 storage price on amazon is $130ish a dozen. A few weeks ago I got a dozen for $80. Wish now I had bought 4 dozen.

Home Depot has a tote that is black with yellow lid. Don't recall manuf. it is durable.

I bought the Akro Mills when they were marked down a couple weeks back. They cost about 2x as much as other bins, but they are definitely higher quality. I wish they were just a touch bigger, but otherwise I like them.

Those Akro mills 39120 are available through zoro on eBay for 18.45 and shipping is free over 50$. This is where I have spent my hundreds on akro mills garage paraphernalia.

Costco has black bins with yellow lids at a reasonable price, if you live near one.

Found these. http://www.costco.com/27-Gallon-Storage-Tote-5-Pack.product.100316846.html

Bought 12 of a smaller version of those at Menards a year or so ago. Currently on sale for $8. https://www.menards.com/main/outdoo...433391767-c-12667.htm?tid=2418511952387294421

I keep 7 or 8 in the work van and they contain and are labled for different things. There's some pretty heavy tools in a few. I then carry them in to peoples homes as I need them. I use them in the van because they stack so well.

The Akro Bins are well made. Many commercial operations I have been in use them.

Look on Craig's list and companies that sell used industrial equipment in your area. With this type of item used is almost as good as new for a lot less.

I have a np205 transfer case that's been in one of those Costco bins for a few years now. Weighs about 150 lbs. The bottom of that bin has handled being moved around the shop a dozen times and even a move to a different house. I've had them stacked 3 high with truck parts and have no concerns standing on the lids. They are really tough and very cheap.

You can pretty much load them as heavy as you can lift and even stack them while loaded like that.

I've been using these black Sterilite bins from Target: http://www.target.com/p/sterilite-1...torage-tote-black-with-red-latch/-/A-15066067

They come in a couple different sizes which is nice and so far they seem quite sturdy - although admittedly I've only been using them for a little under a year now. My other option was going to be the black/yellow ones from Home Depot but personally I think the yellow makes them ugly compare to these black/red ones and I think they only come in one size.

I built the shelving in my shed specifically sized for these bins and plan to have a whole wall of them once I get organized.

Is this what you're talking about? If so these are identical to the ones that Home Depot sells that they label as HDX brand.

yeah. My Costco sells them for like $8 vs $12 at home depot.

Costco used to sell a small like 8 gallon one with tabs that flipped over to lock the lid on. I have three but wish I would have bought more. They are great for smaller projects.

Thanks, I ended up getting the Black/Yellow totes at Costco for $8.00 each. We will see how they hold up. Overall they seem pretty durable but they don't hold much considering you lose 2" of inside space since the lid recesses into the tote itself but it's not bad otherwise.

Toys: i might own 40 of those Costco bins and they will break if you put a few hundred pounds in them and try to move them too quickly. that said i know i've got maybe 300-400 pounds in a few of them. also if you stack them just know that you can break the lids, but as stated above i put a lot of heavy items in mine. for the price ($9) they are a great way to store stuff. get some duct tape and a sharpie if you want to be able to find stuff if you have several.

Ya I'm gonna keep them light and won't be stacking them on top of one another so I should be good. I had the rubbermaid TOUGH versions and the oversized ones cracked something terrible when I put too much weight in them so I've learned to buy smaller container in an effort to not make them too heavy. Thanks for the info, appreciate it.
