Need recommendations for a compressor for my new shop/garage...Its a 24x24x8....I don't see myself needing more than something to power an impact to take off lug nuts, BUT....A friend told me its like guns safes...Find the size you need and then go up 2 sizes...I did install a Rapid air line kit where the work bench goes and in the center of the shop in the ceiling...

thoughts

So after doing some research and talking to SWMBO here is more info

Best air compressor max price $750 (SWMBO)
Oil type/ No oil less (too loud)
Available electric 20 amps of 120v or 220v
horz or vert
stationary or portable (I have a 7 gallon portable)

so the best bang for the buck !!!!

thanks

Dan

Avoid the 'oil less' types. They make a tone of noise.

I would watch CL.

I picked up an old 2-stage 240Vac (built in the 70's) for $125. 50 gal tank...horz unit....nice and quit. Pumps up quick. I can fill up the tank and then go 2-3 weeks before I have to turn it back on...this is the typical tasks...air up bike tires..blow something off

I have a 5 hp 2 cylinder 60 gal upright 11 cfm Campbell Hausfield which I have used weekly for a variety of chores for close to 15 years and it has not given me a moments problem. A compressor like this would fit your price and power requirements. I suspect the list of jobs for your compressor will expand with time. I also have a small cheap oil less portable which I use once or twice a year.
