I know this is a tough one, but I am looking for an 8pt (octagonal) 75MM socket. I called OTC but no luck, the closest they come to it is a 3". The socket looks like this picture, but this has been custom made and is north of $160. Trying to find another source.

Have no idea....I'd use a pipe wrench...opens wide enough and won't give in....with plenty of leverage....

I always found that once you entered the areana of very big nuts and bolts you could use the nearest fractional equivelant socket for use on metric fasteners and they would work acceptably (meaning get the job done without damaging the fastener) if you do not have the exact metric size. At least that has worked for me in the past. Good Luck

It is for a single nut wheel, like they use in auto racing. The current method is to use a special Spanner wrench and hit the hell out of it to 325ftlbs with a lead hammer. Too many times you get very close to the body work and the chances of getting 325lbs accurately is very slim.

They do, however over the years they have standardized the size, but back in the 80's each mfg chose their own size....One guy used a 2" 7/8 and one suggested a 3". I don't want to round off the edges nor take the chrome off of the nut.

Buy the three inch 8pt and dip it in plasti-coat. You know, the stuff HD sells to dip plier handles in? No chipped chrome, tight fit. You may want to go even larger in size, like to a 3 1/8 if you can find it and dip it until it fits JUST right.

Just a thought...

IRL cars don't use a "hex" style nut .... it's a round nut with "ridges" cut around the perimeter. I don't have a pic of the nut itself, but here is a pic I took at Indy that shows the purpose built guns with the "socket"
