I just need a basic portable belt sander, something like this:

except that I want a pneumatic air powered sander, but these are the only kind of air powered sanders I can find:

Are there any belt sanders out there that are air powered like #2, but with a wide belt like #1?

Yes Dynabrade makes some larger belt sanders that are pneumatic, but you will have to shell out some $$$$$, and you better have a LARGE (10 hp+) air compressor. William...

why do you want one?
I dont see the advantage. generally it takes 5hp of electrical energy to make 1hp of compressed air energy.
the air powered belt sander are expensive and will cost more to operate. so why do you need/want one?
just go with a good electric

Have one at work, Black and Decker industrial. Also have an air powered circular saw, a couple grinders, and some D/A sanders.

I guess the idea is if there is no electricity. The compressor we use it on is a tow behind diesel powered one that is good for 100-125cfm.

I guess if there's no chance of finding one for relatively cheap, I'll just get an electric one. I don't have that many reasons for wanting an air sander. Basically, it just seems less wasteful to me to have one big compressor and a bunch of simple, lightweight tools as opposed to having a heavy, electric motor in every single tool that will eventually burn out when I stress it too much. Also, air tools are easier for me to store, versus having an electric tool with a heavy duty cord that always gets tangled up. Whatever... I guess I'll just wait for a cheap electric one to come up on craigslist.

I have a couple spare heavy duty B&D belt sanders that I could let go of if you are interested in savings a few $$$

I'm always up for saving some $$$, although shipping from CA to GA might make it difficult. I might be interested though, how much are you looking for?
