I'm trying to find roughly 6 small cabinets (20-24" wide each) to hang between the wall and garage door track. I don't need anything to fancy or heavy duty but they need to be about 23" deep with the door open. narrowest i've found so far is 24 3/8..

any ideas?

If you have any " Salvage " stores near by you might want to check there. Get someones old kitchen cabinets.

Or place an ad on craigslist.

thanks i'll look into that.. I don't mind buying new something like those cheap white prefabbed deals at OSH or whatever would work.. just can't find the size. I'd like to end up with enough to go about 8' long on each side of the garage.. but just can't be much over 23" deep with the door open (everything i've seen is about 24 3/8.

If your decide to purchase the chinese cabinets at a box store, they arrive knocked down---cake walk to cut down and modify as necessary before you assemble. Probably take just a few minutes to do the whole job after you get the table saw set up. If you get the really basic white boxes, they're stupid inexpensive.

Buy the cheap wooden cabinets with plain doors(flat no fancy shapes).
Cut the doors in half length wise and use hinges to make them a bifold.
Magnetic catches should hold them close.

I picked up 20 (free) metal footlockers when they remodeled the old jail. I'm gonna put them up as cabinets, and fix a magnetic catch to keep the doors closed.
