Hey guys, In the planning phase of a 40x60 with a possible 20x30 side room. Location is northern Ohio and I'm looking into a post frame. For my lift I wouold like a 14' ceiling if I go with a conventional Truss. The issue is thast this shop will be close to my house and I'm afraid that the building will look huge. I've looked here and elsewhere and I like the idea of going with a steel truss and then having a 10 or 12' eve, this should make the size match the house better. But, how are those ceilings insulated and finished? I am looking for a finished ceiling, probably with white tin. I've seen a few pictures online, but I don't know what truss is used or anything. Just looking for ideas.

I appreciate your concern. Have you looked at scissor trusses? 40' would 6 in 12 pitch outside would be 3 in 12 inside, so 5' above top plate at ridge. Go 8 in 12 and 6'-8" over plate.

I am prejudiced toward wood framing. :)

Check out my shop thread. It’s 40x50 with 12’ walls and metal trusses. I insulated the ceiling and hung used metal for the interior finish. I also have a 10k lift in it.

Thanks Bill, I will look into those. That might be a pretty good option and easier to put a ceiling on.

Michael B. Yes, I did see yours and I like the idea. It looks nice but, I'm not sure the wife would like the exposed truss idea.
