Half of my garage is sheet rocked (taped and sprayed) and the other half is open studs with batt insulation and poly (this is how we bought the house).

I've put in some electrical outlets, plan on reapplying the poly, and covering the walls with white slatwall from Menards.

Any objections? Anything I'm missing? I knew its a little more expensive, but I'm not a sheet rock mudder, taper, sander, sprayer kind of guy. I can hang the slatwall myself.

Thanks!

I used white pegboard to cover the knee walls in my detached garage. I wanted the ventilation, and since some were to be removable to get to storage....I thought that was the way to go.

My attached garage is in a split level house, so the ceiling isn't very high. I used slat wall from the ceiling down, and (what I think is called) tile board below. (the panelling that looks like smooth porcelain or tiles that can wipe off easy)

I probably put more time on this job, covering outside corners with molding, etc...but I am very glad I used slat wall. It's prefinished, and allows great versatility. I got all kinds of baskets, hooks, shelves at our local store fixtures store. They're cheap and sturdy. In fact, I have a shelf with a sort of outriggers that the Vipers soft top is stored on.

Drawbacks? Well, it's heavy so you'll need help when putting it up. And, due to its thickness, you may need to extend your electric boxes...but you can buy extender rings which is easy.

I can post pics if you want to see how I did mine...but it's worked out great for me.

Used a lot of slatwall in my build....see link below.

Love it. Easier to use/more strong than pegboard. But more $$ for sure...

I just posted in a sister thread by another. I copied my response for you.....

20 years ago I had a pallet of slat wall given to me, I hung It up and ended up hating it for duration of my time in that garage.

Why?
Special hangers
Back then, a poor selection of hangers
The slats break off with any weight on them
The slats collect dirt and dust like nothing I've ever seen!

A horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE product for a dusty shop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Run from this bad idea as if Satan himself were chasing after you!

In all honesty, I'm not a "hanger" kind if guy. Maybe my slat wall experience is why?
Give me a sturdy shelf to put quality storage boxes on any day.

Tools belong in a chest or tool box, on the wall they get easily "borrowed" and dirty.
