I don't know if Armstrong just recently started to offer toolbox but I couldn't any reviews online on this forum or elsewhere. I am looking at the 16-988 in the Industrial line. I like their tools but I really don't know about their toolbox.

Thank you!

Nobody is using an Armstrong rolling cabinet?... not good! Price was decent for a first toolbox.

I have no experience with that box per se, but...

What do you mean by decent? If you mean decent for a starter box, I say go for it. Can't be any worse than any other starter box.

But if you mean decent compared to a truck tool box.... I'd be a lot more wary about taking a chance. I can't see what price you're looking at, so you'll have to decide that on your own.

For $2500, I wouldn't consider it a "starter" box. lol. Looking at the specs though, it appears to be a beefy enough box...54X25", 18 gauge construction, and weighs 625 pounds. The Harbor Freight 56" box that people rave about only weighs 552 pounds (and that's shipping weight). Of course, it's a third of the cost too.

Looks like a Matco 4 series. You could buy a really nice lightly used nearly new Snap-On for that

Does Danaher or Apex have any brands that make tool boxes? :headscrat

I was guessing that this is probably made by another company, Waterloo or someone else.

Who makes the Matco boxes?

EDIT-- I did a little googling. Looks like Matco has a toolbox plant in Jamestown, NY.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
Matco was the tool manufacturing operation and outside tool procurement company for MAC Tools up until Matco split off, that is why the early Matco boxes were identical to the MAC boxes of the time. Back then Matco had their hardline made by Wright and Bonney and a few others.

I was able to get that cabinet delivered and taxes in (15%) for 2400$CAD here in Quebec, Canada. Compared to the closest similar Craftman that as only 18" depth for near 1400$ I thought it would be a safe upgrade. I know I would be quickly disappointed by the Craftman and I can't find a Armstrong display in my area. That's why I was asking if anyone had previous experience with them. By the way, I am getting in the trade; finishing heavy equipment technician course in 4 months and trying to line up my chest to get started.

A couple of years ago I looked at the companion top chest, 16-885; it was very good quality, although the slides weren't ball-bearing. A Danaher employee told me the boxes were made by a Danaher subsidiary; I assumed it was Matco, but didn't ask. Although I don't know about their prices, I'd definitely consider their boxes, as well as some from International, if I was in the market for a new tool chest.
