Been reading quite a bit on this forum and doing a lot of research on my own as well, trying to determine what's my best option for heating & cooling my detached garage.
My garage is 24x48, walls are insulated with R-19 and ceiling has R-38 batts rolled. I'm more concerned with heating the garage in the winter as I like to work on my cars during downtime. I'm not as concerned with cooling as I don't mind the sweat when I'm working out there, but I'd like it as an option. I'm in Ohio, so winters can get pretty cold here, but I'm also not in Canada so I don't need some monster system.
I've had 3 companies come out to quote me on systems, I'm still waiting on the third quote, but I'm sure it will be similar to the other two. I've been quote Mitsubishi systems because I've heard they are the best and a good friend of mine uses one as well. One quote was just over $7700, and the other was just over $7500. This was a multi-zone outdoor unit with two heads indoors. Does this seem normal?
How hard are these to install yourself? I'm pretty handy and think I might be able to tackle this myself, with a friend. What are my other options? Do you think the mini-split will keep this space at 65F in the winter?
Thanks in advance!
