Looking for Hexagon Bits or Ball End Hexagon Bits

Hi chaps,

Since I have quite a fair amount of Ikea drawers / cupboards to unscrew in a very near future, I was thinking of ordering some HEx bit and I just saw that too:

Ball End Hexagon Bits

Should I stick to the regular hex bit or shall give the hex ball a try ?

For the Hex bits would you recommand any brand ?

ball head are not the best, you should have a std set in case some are too tight or get stripped. The flat ones are more reliable, with a lot more contact area. I like the ball end ones but they are more for when you just don't have a good angle on the fastener.

Fyi ,make sure you have pozi drive phillips too. Bondhus, Wiha, Wera for hex

As mentioned ball are good for when you have access issues but a straight hex is going to be stronger and last longer.

(Hmm wierd thought just now: Anyone make a ball Torx? )

For Ikea furniture I'm sure the ball ends will be strong enough (Bondhus, Wiha etc).

And I would think you DEFINITELY want ball end for those cabinets and what not. Every fastener is going to be tucked away in a corner where you can't get a straight shot with a impact, thus meaning you'll be off angle.

Just buy both sets. Money well spent.

they come in handy sometimes since the drill might be too big so you only can use it if you work in an angle...

I would NOT use ball hex tips with a power tool. You might be safe if you set the clutch to a low setting and experiment.

You mentioned Ikea fasteners, which are cheap, soft, and poorly made -- I'd definitely go with a "straight" bits. Many of these fasteners aren't going to have a deep enough hex recess to use a ball end.

Of course, have a few of the ball ends around for places where you can't reach with a straight end.
