I have read a few treads about hydraulic jack repair and "Hiball" seems to be the resident expert. I just have a question about a Hein-Werner 1 1/2 ton jack I am rebuilding. I have completely torn it down, cleaned it and re-assembled it and it works fine BUT it now leaks at the bottom between the block and reservoir. When I dis-assembled the jack there was no seal or gasket at the junction. Looking at old parts books there is no seal listed or shown in the schematics. However it leaks there. What am I doing wrong?

There is no seal. It is metal to metal. Those things were torqued to about 300 lbs/ft. Is yours tight enough? You might have a burr or piece of a metal shaving or dirt. I would say disassemble and check, maybe use a very thin smear of silicone on the mating surfaces to help seal. This thread would get more attention probably in the tool section.

Thanks 469 runner. I am beyond computer illiterate, is there a way to move this thread the appropriate forum?
