2018 super duty with factory plastic running boards. Very slick in morning after a frost. I would like to add some additional traction to them. I was thinking of hex head screws to add some bite or some type of extruded aluminum c channel with notches cut in sides. I have thought about grip tape but I think ice will cover it. Need something more 3D

Since spending other people's money is so easy, have you looked at aftermarket options? Tons out there, some with really aggressive grip patterns

when we had motorcycle ice races around here the standard tire was an off road knobby with hex head sheet metal screws in the knobs
it seemed to work

I forgot what application I was concerned with but I remember considering screwing beer bottle caps upside down for foot traction.

That would certainly do the trick, but they'll rust very quickly if installed on a vehicle in the rust belt.

The bottle caps ridges is what I was envisioning except in a straight bar or even c channel does something like this exist. Like an asphalt lute design in miniature? Or the bar on feeder house chain in combine?

great Ideas thanks for them - really I appreciate it. I would ideally like a piece of c channel that is 3/16 to 1/4 tall maybe 3/4 to 1-1/2” wide that is serrated in stainless or aluminum that I could bolt to my existing running boards outer edge. Does something like this exist?

this is rough idea from - I don’t need 500

The existing running boards are plastic so I am concerned about anything being glued lasting very long
