i picked this up for the new shop recently & was curious if anyone has any info as to what date it was made. the tag says it's a 137-G & there is another number in a slot nest to that with 10-40. just curious if this means it was made in oct 1940? it works good & the blades are in excellent shape, so don't figure i did too bad at $300. when things settle down a bit & i get caught up on some of the work, i'll tear it apart & restore it.

It's usually stamped in somewhere on the bed, but that 10-40 might be the date as well.

Interesting. I was given one of these, but it's rusted so badly nothing moves and I suspect pcs are missing. It's going to need a massive resto and I keep procrastinating.

However the sheet metal shop at which I used to work also has one and so I can go in there to reference, if I feel things are missing or incorrect.

edit: this thread got me momentarily motivated so I took a look at mine, it was built 1/56 so it's much newer than most mentioned here. The foot pedal is seized and the blade appears to be all the way down.

sellersrodshop,
What is the vintage 2-stroke in the background of that picture?
Looks very Jawa or Bennelli-ish

it's a 1957 harley davidson 165ST a.k.a "hummer". i paint more of these per year than probably anyone else in the country. i have 13 set of "hummer" tins here right now along with a 66 panhead & a 1930 harley VL. the one in the pic was a bike i painted a couple years ago that came back to get some damage fixed from an accident- another bike fell over & dinged this one on the way down.

Nice shear! I bought a pexto slip roller a couple years back for 75 bucks and would love to get some more old school metal machines like a stomp shear and a brake along with many other items!
