Ok so after a few cold winters in MN, I'm finally going to install a heater. Im looking for a ceiling unit for natural gas. I have the line ran out there and also have power there too.
I was planing on looking at some reznor units at around 75k BTUS. The garage is fully insulated along with the doors and i have about 11 ft ceilings. I don't have any fans in there currently so i'm not sure if getting it up to temp is going to be a problem or not. I attached a blue print of the garage to help with the size of it.

So input, advice or recommendations would be great thanks!

The image is so small I can't see the size, but it looks to be a deep three car wide with extra space in back, so 11ft high and maybe close to 1000 sq ft?

Do you have direct access through the roof for the exhaust vent, or are there rooms above the garage?

I have 960 sq ft, R21 walls, R60 ceiling, insulated doors, 12ft ceiling, and a 75k BTU BigMaxx NG unit heater that would roast you in there if you wanted it to. I could probably have gone with a 45K unit.

yea sorry about that i dont know why its so small. But its a normal 3 car 30x34 with a 12 x 21 add on in the back. There is a room above it but not over the add on and i was playing on putting in the back corner, and have it vent out the side or back.

I got roughly a 30x40 with 13' ceilings. I Just pulled the trigger on a big maxx 80k the other day. I'm going to convert it to propane, buy my own tank and enjoy some heat this winter!

My local hvac guy was trying to talk me into a 45k unit saying that it would be plenty, but for some reason, I didn't believe him. You should definitely consider a ceiling fan. I have a few that I plan on installing sooner or later. Probably later.

What kind of work do you do in the garage? The decision between separated combustion and a unit that draws air from inside is something to consider if you do a lot of painting or body work/sanding. I seem to recall a seeing a thread out there where a guy modified the back panel of a big maxx to allow an air intake piped outside..

So my question for you steevo.. Whats the cycle time like with your set up? Any idea how long it takes to heat up the garage? What temps do you leave it on? Whats your bill like monthly/ costs of gas?

I've been tossing around the idea of a wireless wifi capable thermostat I could control with my phone. That was If I know i'm on my way home or not on my way I could adjust the temp accordingly.
